Course looks great, and very green. Pros: Greens are consistent and extremely fast, and awesome to putt on. Fairways are in amazing shape and always have good lies. Cons: Fairways bouncy, fast, and sloped so a ball hit down the middle might roll off into the rough which brings me to my second complaint. Rough is EXTREMELY thick. You are lucky to hit the ball 100 yds out of it. You must be accurate off the tee to score well here. Also, greens are extremely hard and fast so approach shots roll off and do not stick whatsoever. Rough around greens is a little less thick but still quite ridiculous. I’m not trying to play in the U.S. Open! Sand is in decent shape and tee boxes are good. Overall, the course looks very green, but is playing extremely hard almost unfair-like right now.

  • I love this course and let me tell you why. It is consistent. You know what the hell you are going to get when you go to play it. It’s not wishy washy. You can get used to the speed of the greens, the fairways, the rough, etc. This is one of the best in Charlotte. I don’t think it desrves a 3.5 – more like a 4.5. Just my opinion.

  • i agree ILL INI i think it is only second to verdict ridge, although i have not played edgewater yet / going to play 18 at springfield friday

  • I agree with Matt. I find that the variable bounces in the fairway (hit a perfect shot in the fairway, end up in the rough) and crazy shot angles into very hard (as in firm) greens make scoring well nearly impossible. It’s okay for a course to have one or two extremely difficult holes, but at Springfield it’s more like five or six. Just not enjoyable when it’s that hard.

  • Let me clarify. I love Springfield. It is very close to my house and I truly enjoy the whole experience there… from well maintained course conditions to the nice golf carts to the good sized range, etc. etc. etc. From previous reviews you can obviously tell I like this course. However, that day the fairways seemed extra firm (probably the heat taking its toll) and the rough seemed extra thick. I still had a great time playing (I mean even a bad day of golf is better than a great day without it) but the greens are starting to get marked up and are extremely hard to stick an approach shot on due to them being very firm. This is proven by the fact that my only divot of the whole day was on a 190-yd 4-iron to the 17th green. (I still love putting on them as they are faster, more consistent, and smoother than most other courses around Charlotte.) This is the first time I have given Springfield anything less than a 4.5 star rating, but I believe it was warranted. Hopefully next time I go the greens will be softer and the rough will be shorter. And I know the course is supposed to be hard hence its course rating and slope rating, but still it isn’t supposed to be PGA tournament hard. Maybe I’m just griping cause I shot one of my worst scores in a while 🙂 I don’t know.

  • matt you were dead on about course – playing very hard / fairways rolling / greens FAST / rough depends on lie – i hit a 4wood 220 out of it / hopefully it becomes more playable because i really like the course

  • Malamute, I agree with you. The course layout is awesome and the course is usually in amazing shape. Hopefully, they can fix these somewhat minor issues that take some fun out of a normally very fun round.
