What is the deal? Why are all the great golf courses the ones that require driving close to an hour to get there? Fox Den, Edgewater, Tillery Tradition, and now Lancaster and there all about an hour travel time to get there. Lancaster was in great condition today. Greens were in perfect condition. Guy at the club house told us about a couple of greens on the hard side but I guess with the wet weather we didn’t notice it. I’m not sure about the number scale that I see people use so I just have to describe it in my own way and that is the greens were between a medium and fast speed. Fairways were great. A couple of sand traps had water in them but it had rained prior to us playing. I didn’t get in the sand today but you could tell by looking at them the sand traps would be good on a dry day. Absolutely nothing bad to say about this course. Another great course in great condition.

I am so with you. I wish they could move tillery, fox den, edgewater, rock barn, vr, and red bridge all about 5 minutes from uptown. I still have yet to check out lancaster, but might do so this weekend.

If you do, you wont be disappointed. There was one thing I noticed but forgot to mention. I played from the blue tees which on this course happens to also be the tips. I played from the blues because the score card said they were 6530 yards and that is usually the distance that I prefer to play from. It seemed that I got myself into more golf course then my driver could chew off. You might want to check the accuracy of the score card yardage when you get to the club house.

If there were such good courses closer in to town they would be so overrun you’d never get a round in. The property values just won’t let this happen. I grew up on the old Sharon Golf Course near Southpark. Only 9 holes boy was it nice to have a decent course close by for us city folk. Now you have to be a member of a private or drive at least 30 minutes to play anywhere worthwhile. I have settled on Fort Mill, Springfield or Olde Sycamore. But if cash was a non issue I’d look at places like Carolina Golf Club, Cedarwood or Pine Island. Know a couple of folks at Carolina and it is an excellent course. But right now it is just not in the cards for my family. So, I drive. And I drive some more. Just the way it is.
