Back here on 8/28/23 with my golf buddy Ron.
He heard me talk about this place and had seen the B-Man’s guide rating this place as #7 on the top 10 public courses in the CLT area.

It was as good as I remember when I first played it 5/12/22.

We were out at 10a on a Monday morning. It was busy but not slammed.
We hit a few balls off the driving range and a few practice putts.

I noticed they have a designated area for chipping which is new and a welcome addition.

Hole #6 is a Par 3 with an elevated green and quite a drop to the green below. It’s 142 yards from the Whites/Gold tees.
It’s a beautiful hole with a fantastic view in the background.

Hole #13 is a short Par 4, 217 yards from the Gold.
It runs along a lake on the right and has a banking fairway on the left all the way to the hole. There’s a green side bunker on the left approach and water on the right as you approach the green.
A note worthy hole which is a lot of fun and great bird opportunity for a Par 4

Hole # 15 is a monster! I hope you brought your hiking shoes!
It’s 321 yards from the Gold and there is barely a level spot in the fairway.
It’s banked on the right side and a steep grade you want to avoid.

Within about 100 yards of the green, the elevation increases dramatically so you may not even see the top of the pin.
You will def not see the green until you climb the steep hill to get to green level. It’s probably one of the most challenging holes I’ve ever played.

They course was in excellent condition even though they did a ‘lite punch’ about 2 weeks ago. It didn’t noticeably impact play.

The clubhouse is on the smallish side as they don’t have a lot in the way of hot food options. They do have a warmer for hot dogs and a cooler for cold sammies.

At $39 for a Vet rate, I thought it was an excellent value.
It’s def not a course you want to walk unless you’re preparing for a Triathlon.
If you are not fit, I would not recommend playin the full 18 holes in the high heat and humidity of the summer. You’ll be OK with the front 9.

Some of the cart paths have new asphalt since I last played though there are still areas on the front where it’s gravel only.

They got quite a bit of rain the day before so the bunkers were a little suspect with packed sand though there was no standing water that I could tell as I was only in one bunker 🙂

It’s in the beautiful rural and rolling Piedmont of NC and very remote which is part of the attraction for me. It’s a golf trip you plan and not a ‘spontaneous’ golf outing for most. It’s situated in the foothills of the Uwharrie Mountains which has a peak at High Rock of 1,200 feet so that will give you an idea of the elevation.

From my house in Fort Mill, SC it’s 33 miles and a solid hour drive which goes through ‘downtown’ Monroe.

If your coming from Charlotte, you might do it quicker since you can access off highway 74 and if you take the bypass, you’ll avoid a lot of the Monroe traffic.
