Great conditions. The greens were a tad slower than they were the last time I played here a bit more than a month ago. That was a good thing because the last time they were somewhat solid and I think the aeration obviously worked that out. They’re in great shape.

Fairways and Tee Boxes are in the conditions you would expect from a top course. This one is a challenging course. There are a few holes to keep in mind. Keep cart speed in check on down hill paths, as the brakes on their cars are soft.

The aforementioned #2 is indeed a challenge. If anything, you need to aim for the bunker and gently fade it. A straight shot in that direction will not make you pay until you get above 320 yards or so. A straight snot aimed slightly to the right is optimal, but approach with caution as the water is in play.

Another one is #5 that has an island of woods after a steep drop, so keep to the left if at all possible. It takes a 270 yard drive to carry it into the crap. Long hitters are better off with a 3 wood, but a driver on a draw is less likely to be punished. Just not too far left.

#11 is pretty straight forward, but water is in play for your 2nd shot, and a layup is a smarter play. That said, if you want to go for it, pick a little more club and the back side of the green is on a steep uphill, so over strikes won’t be punished terribly.

#12 is bloody murder if you miss it anything other than short and slightly left. To the right and it’ll bounce out of bounds. To the left and you’re hitting it out of the garbage. I missed this one AGAIN today and ended up with a 6. I barely missed O.B. and chunked it out of the weeds with the weed whacker (lob wedge).

#13 is fun or frustrating. It is within reach for long hitters. If taking the chance, the desired path is a fade into the hill so it bounces and feeds into the green. Anything else is 99% going into the water, so you’ve got to have control; otherwise don’t bother. But it’s tempting. :D

Other than that, everything else is pretty straight forward. :) It is a fun course, but also very challenging.

  • Great review and I took note of strategy for Par 4 #13 at 217 yards from Gold and was able to execute just as you recommended and carded a birdie.

FYI - Tega did a deep verticut earlier this week and didn’t have it mentioned on their website. Rode down there today to get a road round in while Skybrook recovers from aerating only to be completely disappointed. Got a rain check at the turn…give it a couple weeks...
