- "Best of the best"
First time playing in a year and what a treat.Te course was in the best shape that I have ever seen it.Tee boxes good, real sand in traps, and the greens were perfect with no issues at all.The fairways were plush and the rough was actually-well rough, not too high but thick and consistent.
My only downside was that there was a significant rate increase in July which makes the senior rate of $44 M-Thur.and $80 for everyone on weekends, not such a good deal for us fixed income, senior citizens that must drive nearly an hour to play. However, with the conditions and layout,it is probably worth the price. This course was in the best shape I have ever seen it.The fairways were lush, the tee boxes good, and the greens the best of any I've played this year. This last point was the news.Tillery has always seemed to have issues with their greens, even after replacing them within the last two years. The greens today were perfect and cut very fast. Also in the past carts weren't allowed in the parking lot ,but today they were actually delivered to the lots for you.
I know they had a consultant working with them for a while and the results were really good. One of them I believe was Jeff Austin, the former GM at the private Irish Creek Club in Kannapolis. Read The Review

Played early morning,3rd group out.The fairways were in good shape for the most part, some of the tees (played senior) were a little beat up.The greens however were pretty bad. They were reseeded about 1-1 1/2 years ago and were pretty good until a couple months ago. There are some that appear to be dying with bad areas everywhere. They resodded #5 par 3 last month and the new green looks to be dying. The greens that are good have numerous pitch marks that were unrepaired. The traps are usually raked well , and the layout is good ,but the green issues have me playing elsewhere for a time. There are other Salisbury courses that are better now. Read The Review

Played this course early morning, first time on the new greens. The greens themselves were very good, smooth, medium speed. There were some areas on a few greens that had been sodded at the edges near the fringes. These did not affect our play and I had heard about these in advance through their emails.Fairways were great and the tee boxes for the most part very good. The rough seemed a little thicker than in the past ,but not as bad as some other area courses. The traps on the other hand had not been raked and this had usually been a strength of the course.Maybe because we were out before they got a chance to do them?
Overall very good course but they have raised their rates somewhat, thirty five dollars for senior rate in the weekdays.I love the course, but can do better price wise and closer than a 45 min.drive. Read The Review

Played today and the course was in great shape, even with the drought. The fairways and tee boxes were good. The traps had good sand and were raked perfectly. The greens were good and a little faster than they appeared. Some of the pin placements were a little tough, such as on the edge of a ridge, but they were having a captains choice tournament after lunch so this probably led to some of the placements.I live in Concord so its about an hour trip up there ,but we love the course so we go monthly. Great course. The fairways are lush and green, the tee boxes are good except for one I noticed on gold tees. The greens were smooth but a little slow. The only issue was that the traps had not been raked. In fairness to the course, they were hit with a severe storm three days before and they lost approx.30 trees,so they were busy with that clean up and I'm sure that put the raking and mowing a little behind.Even with that, there was no problems with the trees around the course, only saw a few twisted sumps and some piles of brush far enough back in the woods that you had to look to see them. Fairways good, tee boxes good,The traps had mostly packed sand, luckily I didn't test any of them, but a few of the more out of the way ones had no sand. The only other complaint was that they had lightly sanded the greens, but not punched them. They looked kind of bad ,but actually putted pretty well and had good speed.Without the sand the speed would have been almost too fast.Of course they didn't tell us of the sanding when the tee time was made or when we paid. It's been over a year since I've played here but I will be back more ofter. The course for the most part is in really good shape, the greens except for a few unrepaired ball marks, are very good. The fairways good and the rough a little thick ,but fair.I am a senior and I didn't have any problem playing the white tees like a former poster,as a matter of fact I had the opposite problem, the whites on some holes were too near the reds.I also saw a former reviewer's problem with a lot of mushy areas around the greens and fringes from watering the greens, but I can live with that for good greens.Another concern were some of the traps.I was in only one,and while it was freshly raked and looked good, there was only a thin covering of sand and then clay.Hard to play out of that. Let me start by saying this is one of my favorite courses to play.Being a senior ,the course is challenging but not too long. The fairways were really good with no bare spots and good grass, maybe not "lush" but very good. The traps were raked with plenty of sand ,I know because I found enough of them. The tees were grass covered, but maybe a little too long in places and the rough was fair, thick but not too deep that you lose balls.
The bad part were the greens. They always seem to have issues here. They repaired some of them this spring and they grew in well, but now they have major issues again.Lots of large bare areas and sporatic small areas. They just can't keep these bent grass greens alive down there is the heat we are having.
The course is trying to up their memberships so they can be a more "upscale" course-higher fees- but it "ain't gonna happen"until they switch greens to champion bermuda or mini verde.
The new management that was brought in has a tough job ahead. They want more income, but can't get more players with the greens issues and also the location. If they raise rates, they will lose some of the players they have now.I drive from Concord, because I like the layout and the rates are reasonable for the quality, excepting bad greens, but with a rate increase ,I will not be returning as often. We teed off early, around 7:30 to miss the midday heat.Fairways were good ,tee boxes good for the most part. The traps were raked and decent amount of sand in most of them. The greens were average speed but plenty of unrepaired or poorly repaired ballmarks. How hard is it to take a moment to fix your mark??A couple greens, while still good were showing signs of maybe having issues in the future with the hot ,dry temps.
The only real problem was when we checked in and the pro asked if we had cash, because the phones and internet had been down for a cut cable somewhere else.He said if we needed to use credit,he would "write down our number and enter it when the system was back up".Sorry, not giving anyone my cc# "to write down".Too many people wondering in and out of the clubhouse during the day. Good conditions for the most part.Course greening up well.Greens good except for a few ball marks and pretty fast.Traps were good even, after all the rain the past week, with plenty of fluffy ,white sand.Course is challenging, but fair, just a little long for an old guy like me (63)from the white tees.My fault on that-should have moved up! Great course, tees good, fairways good, traps fluffy sand and all raked.Greens were good but a tad slow.Had a good online rate.A little bit off the path for Charlotte area golfers, but that just leaves more open tee times for those of us a little closer! Read The Review

Course is in great shape .Tees good, fairways green and full.Traps raked but the sand is a little course.Greens smooth, firm, and fast.Only "complaint" was some of the pin placements must have been U.S. Open related...On slopes and ridges .Made for some tough putting. Read The Review

Fairways brown like most courses.A lot of fairway traps have NO sand ,just mud. Most green side traps are good and raked.Greens are fast and most are smooth ,but a couple have some issues with bare(sandy )spots.Tee boxes average. Read The Review

Good conditions in spite of all the rain.A little water in one or two traps but most of them were raked and in good shape.Fairways drain well there and greens were very fast. Some pin placements were tough- side hill ,on ridges-but not overly unfair.Course was NOT cart path only like most courses that we checked with. Course in great shape.Fairways are drying out a little but still good.Tee boxes good, traps have a lot of sand and have been raked, the rough is pretty thick so keep an eye on any balls rolling off the fairways.Greens were good except for unfixed ball marks but they rolled true for the most part-medium speed and fair placements.
One of my favorite places to play even if a little bit of a drive. Read The Review

The course is narrow in places and if you hit into the edge of the woods, forget it.No chance or finding a ball ,even two feet off the course. The rough was tall and thick some fairways were pretty tall also. The greens were in pretty good sharp and putted true. The "bunkers"were laughable. There was no sand and what sand was there, was hard packed. Most had standing water that was due to recent rains.I saw no one working on any bunkers.I am aware of the Carolina Trail issues but I was playing with someone from Columbia, and since I am from Concord, it was a"halfway "point course .We played as a twosome and had a couple foursomes in front of us and there was NO offer for us to play through. Course in good shape except it was still a little wet in places from the recent rains so it was cart path only. The greens were good, but a little slower than they looked.Traps for the most part were well raked and loose even with the rains. The staff are always friendly for the most part.
We got a great foursome deal for $20 on golf now. Read The Review

Course good shape considering very rainy conditions the last two weeks, but it was cart path only.A little bit wet and muddy in places but ok.The greens were smooth, fast and hard ,even after the rains. My score was quite a bit higher than it should have been due to the hardness of the greens.Could not stop any shots.I have never "hit" so many greens in regulation and be chipping from behind the greens in my life.If you tapped the green with a club,it sounded like hitting concrete. It reminded me and my playing partners of a billard table both from the carpet like surface, the hardness and the speed.
The good part was $20 for 18 holes at Golfnow. The staff was friendly and helpful. Read The Review

Tees and fairways in good shape. The rough was very thick and deep.Miss hit one shot short ,left and saw it hit into the side of a hill and disappear.I noted a clump of different colored grass at the spot the ball entered the rough as a reference.I found the clump of grass but never the ball.I dropped a ball at the same spot and if I hadn't been standing over the spot I dropped it,I would have lost it! It buried completely in the grass.
Also ,the traps were inconsistant. Some nice and fluffy and others firmer, and others with a very thin layer of sand.
The greens were very bad with crab grass in spots and very pock marked up.
The price was too much for the conditions even for a holiday weekend! Read The Review

Good course. It is a little tight in places.A lot of steep elevation changes. The green were in good shape except for a couple around the fringe, but to me seemed a little small.Sand traps appeared to have been fairly well maintained. The surrounding terrain is pretty wooded and if you are off the fairways in the woods you can forget the ball because of thick briars and undergrowth.Stay on the fairways or the short rough and you are ok.The fairways were in descent shape in spite of the dry weather.A little bit of a haul from my house-Concord-but ok.Good online deals at times. Course has a lot of elevation changes that must be considered in club selection. It is challenging without being too difficult.Fairways great, rough thick ,but not too bad, greens basically ok with a few rough ares. Also, the greens were punched recently but are clearing up and putt pretty true.It is a pretty good drive for me but I will probably play again. Course is in overall good condition.A couple greens have been resodded in places but it doesn't affect the putting much. The pin placements were fair, unlike a month ago when I played and the pin placements made some holes almost unplayable. There was a couple tee boxes that was in need of more grass and the traps need to be maintained a little better.
