- "Best of the best"
 Beautiful, scenic course. Eye candy everywhere, with dramatic elevation changes and holes artistically sculpted into the natural terrain. It's not for the faint of heart. Landing areas are very generous, but there is trouble around 75% of the greens, much of it close to the putting surfaces. If your approaches are not solid, you are going to struggle. You are also going to 3-putt. Greens are massive with a lot of slope. A couple (mid-green tier on number 8 and false front on number 17) are comically severe, with slopes exceeding probably 15 degrees. The Prism zoysia is a consistent surface with no grain. It rolls relatively slow, which is a good thing for greens with so much slope. Course conditions overall were exceptional. At $150, this is a once-a-year special treat for me, but one that does not disappoint. Read The Review

 Shout out for the Dr. Charles L. Sifford Course. I have a 50-year+ love-hate relationship with this course. It's a compact and occasionally quirky layout, and there is always an eclectic crowd, with lots of beginners who (simply through lack of experience) struggle with navigating the course and observing standard golf etiquette. Pace of play can be an issue. The course has also undergone several management changes. All that said, it is a very well maintained muni. The fairways are old-school bermuda, which loves the heat, so the turf really pops in August and September. If you want to experience the DCLS course, play it now, in peak condition. Fairways were full with premium lies all day. Greens are dense, with a smooth, consistent surface and surprisingly fast downhill. Tee boxes are beat up due to the volume of play. Play the tips on this short course for better boxes. The starter is not very organized, and the marshals do not really enforce pace of play. However, you can almost always get on this course and can walk it on a weekday for ~$20, which is a great value. A real mixed bag of holes, with some relatively long and difficult ones (1, 7, and 9, with a 200+ yard force-carry over a hazard to a tight fairway from the back tee) combined with a couple near-drivable par fours. It has a lot of personality and, for me, fond memories of playing here with my father as a kid, which keeps bringing me back. Read The Review

 Jackson course. Fairway turf in excellent condition. Tee boxes generally good, as well. Bunkers pretty good, though some on the front side were not raked and a couple were thin on sand, with the bunker liner poking up from underneath. Greens in good shape but, as is typical with bent grass in NC in August, showing heat stress and with a lot of ball marks. Front nine was very slow, with what appeared to be a club-organized captain's choice tournament, which concluded after 9 holes. Back nine much faster. Professional and courteous staff.  Course is well-maintained and in excellent conditions. Fairway bermuda is in peak summer condition, with plush lies all day. Rough is thick and penalizing, at about 2 inch height. Tee boxes in good shape. Traps in good shape and well maintained. Greens appear to have been slit-aerated and lightly sanded within the last week but were healing nicely and were generally smooth and relatively quick. They putted very consistently.  Greens recently aerated, so fuzzy, bumpy, and very slow. Tee boxes also a bit fuzzy. Fairway turf in good condition, as well as bunkers - nicely shaped and raked. Pace of play (on a Tuesday morning) was slow on the front at 2.5 hours, but picked up on the back (at 2.0 hours). Staff accommodating and professional. Read The Review

 Great experience in first trip to Monroe CC. It's a haul from Charlotte but worth the effort to play an enjoyable and well-maintained course. Front side is quintessential Ross - compact tract, small punch-up greens, hidden bunkers, very playable when you're in position. Back side feels roomier, with a lot of tree-lined fairways. Conditions were top-notch. Played ball down all day with premium lies. Greens were spotless and rolled consistently. Breaks are subtle. Bunkers have quality sand and are well maintained.  Poor value. Fairways in good shape, with a few isolated spots, but able to play the ball down. Greens generally in good shape, with a lot of unrepaired ball marks. Speeds were consistent. Tee boxes are beat up. Bunkers not raked. Pace of play was just under 5 hours, with a marshal monitoring but not enforcing pace of play (two holes open ahead of group in front of us). Olde Sycamore has a nice layout, and if it were a $60 or even a $75 course, then this review would be different. But when I pay $100, I expect, at a minimum, raked bunkers.  Course is in excellent shape. Aeration scars still slightly visible, but greens rolled smooth, were consistent, and pretty fast. Played ball down all day and never had a bad lie in fairway. Traps well maintained. Tee boxes in good shape with normal wear. Course was set up very difficult from green markers, which were pushed back next to black on several holes, and most pins were 5 paces from an edge. Pace of play generally good at 4+15 on a hot day. Very solid experience at Rocky River. Bermuda is still waking up in the fairways, so they played hard and fast, but I played the ball down and had good lies all day. Aprons are well tended. Tee boxes are somewhat beat up, which is why the course gets a score of 8 instead of 9 or 10. Bunkers were raked and in good condition. Greens were exceptional -- really smooth, beautiful, consistent surfaces -- among the very best greens in the area, including those at high-end private clubs.  My first visit. Beautiful course on a spectacular, scenic property. Tee boxes and fairways were in outstanding condition. Bermuda rough was thick and tough. Greens had a few stressed areas but putted smoothly and consistently - problems more cosmetic than substantive. Played Gold markers, and it was tough - 140+ slope with multiple 400+ yard par 4s and 200+ yard par 3s. But it looked too short from the Blue (regular) tees, with a couple holes even requiring lay-up. Big gap of 500+ yards between the markers, so probably will set-up better for me with a hybrid approach next time. Great value. Read The Review

 Mooresville is in superb condition. Tee boxes are some of the best in the area. Fairways were play-the-ball-down condition with excellent lies all day. Greens were firm but receptive and rolled very smoothly with very consistent speed all day. The Bermuda is thriving in the summer heat, and the turf is full, with the rough cut at about a half-stroke penalty height. Fun course. Front and back are very different. Read The Review

Fort Mill is in very good condition. Fairways are lush. Rough has a few wear spots that generally do not impact play.
