First time I made it up north to play Skybrook. I heard so much about the great layout, but I find the layout to be fairly unremarkable except for the 17th hole. When I called, I was told the greens were in “great shape.” Lie. Bumpy and eaten up.
Fairways and bunkers are much less ready than other courses this time of year.
The Carolina Trail courses I’ve played continue to disappoint, with possible excpetion of Waterford (good greeens). I’ve been told that Birkdale is the possible exception, where they actually spend money and time to take care of the course.
Hey JD. Perhaps it has gone downhill recently, but Skybrook has typically been my favorite of the CT courses. My biggest complaint at Skybrook is usually the pace. I love the closing 4 holes — with the short par 4 15th, the par 3 16th over water, the challenging par 4 17th with water on the left, and the S-shaped par 5 18th with the signature tree from the scorecard in play on the tee shot. I’ve played here when the greens were fast and smooth and loved it. I can imagine if the greens are not great right now, the course will disappoint.
