How sad. I live at Highland Creek, but usually play elsewhere for many reasons. Reminded today of the biggest one: the decline of this course from it’s original place as “The Crown Jewel of Charlotte” . A lot of people don’t know that HC was the first high-end daily fee course in Charlotte – opened in 1993, when the only choices were expensive private clubs or goat tracks. In the early years, HC had immaculate conditions, flowers on the ladies teeboxes, and, yes, prices to match – $65 on a weekend – but boy was it worth it.
Today: pock-marked greens with tons of poa anna issues and bunkers with no sand, even with the base bunker netting pulled up. The only positives were good fairways and a great pace of play – probably because nobody wants to play the course.
