"Great course"
First time playing here --- very impressed with the greens as the Sunday Ultra-Dwarf Bermudagrass is as advertised! Very smooth and they roll true. A good variety of holes and good risk/reward shots as well. Hard to get into too much trouble here. Enjoyed it very...
I just recently moved to the DENVER NC area and wondered if anyone has played the newly re-opened Westport Golf. If so what is your take on the course?
Played last Tuesday (12th), and fairways and tee boxes were a little rough, some tree/limb damage from the storm, but the greens were GREAT, really unbelievable. The Clickit coupon, 2 for $25, makes it a heck of a deal.
Make that $25, each…$50 for twosome
Has anyone played Westport recently? How was the condition of fairways and greens? Do they have senior tees? Thanks for any information available.
I played Westport last week after work one afternoon. Teed it up as a single around 530 or so. Overall, the conditions weren’t that bad & I liked the layout of the course. Tee boxes were a mix of dry spots and grass & the fairways are in need of rain. On the otherhand, the greens were exceptional and rolled pretty smoothly. I do remember they have about 4 sets of tees & will accomodate your skill level. Westport has the potential to be a great course, once conditions become more favorable. Its a great value!
Played Larkhaven and Warrior in last two weeks and found both in great shape. Thinking about going to Westport next week and wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on giving that course a try.
Hey everyone, We are moving into Westport and wanted to know if anyone knew much about the course. Any members on the site your opinion on whether to join would be appreciated. Thanks, Scott
Has anyone had a chance to play Westport Golf Club recently? I’m thinking of going out there as they have an all you can play special for $30 on Tuesdays.
I’m also trying to play fit Verdict Ridge and Fox Den into the golf schedule. Any recent feedback on these courses would also be appreciated. Thanks!
I played there yesterday. Course is in decent shape (actually better than I have seen it in a while) but there are minor issues… Tee boxes are probably the worst of it. Greens are a little fuzzy but still puttable and will hold a shot. It’s a good layout with some tough holes (#4 is a bear). $30 for all day is a good deal; go for it.
Verdict Ridge is a must play… Fox Den not so much IMO
Anybody ever played Westport? Is it a decent course? Recommendations for other NICE courses appreciated- would like the top 3 courses based on condition – no cost issues.
Westport is an average semi-private course with traditional layout. It just can’t compare with Verdict Ridge, Glen Oaks, and Fox Den in the same neighborhood.
Top Three Courses in The Charlotte Metro Area
1) Verdict Ridge (Always in Great Shape) New Bermuda Greens
2) Ballantyne Resort
3) Rocky River or if you don’t mind the drive Rock Barn
Slow greens, long fairways. Not a fan of the layout, it has a lot of blind shots and everyone in our group had several bizarre bounces off the fairways. The only way to make a putt here is to hammer it right at the hole, not much feel to the greens. Better options exist a lot closer for those in the Charlotte area.
Agreed. They need to mow this stuff down a bunch especially since the weather is cooler now. I have a heavy putter and need to add like 45 lbs to it with how slow those greens are.
Hey guys, I am coming to the Charlotte area with some buddies for a golf trip and I was wondering if anyone had anything to say about Westport Golf Club? Any insight you could give me would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Honestly can’t say I have played it. B-Man himself can probably give you more tips than I can.
I wanted to drop a line and say that Verdict Ridge right around the corner is one of my favorites in the area. Can play a little tight, but good value for the conditions. At least it was last year…
Actually, I’ve also never played Westport. Whenever I ask someone who has played it whether I should add it to my site, they kinda shrug. So I haven’t had a reason to check it out. As Kyle mentioned, Verdict Ridge is top notch (rated #1 in my Top 10 list last year). There are also a couple good ones on the other side of the lake, including Skybrook and Tradition.
I played Westport last weekend. Course is in OK shape from tee to green. Some teeboxes are sparse, but others are fine. Fairways are decent. There are some thin areas. Greens are quicker than they seem. Don’t know when you are planning on coming down, but this course always greens up in summer.
If you don’t like to wail away with driver every hole, then you’ll like the layout at Westport. I will use driver on 4 or 5 holes max during a round. There isn’t much water that comes into play (save the first hole; don’t tee off without taking a look down the hill at the pond). There’s quite a few doglegs, along with a driveable par 4 (#15).
You can usually find a discount tee time that makes the course worth it.
Westport is definitely not a golf trip destination course.
