"Great course"

5/29/23: Review by GoBux

First time playing here --- very impressed with the greens as the Sunday Ultra-Dwarf Bermudagrass is as advertised! Very smooth and they roll true. A good variety of holes and good risk/reward shots as well. Hard to get into too much trouble here. Enjoyed it very...

I have heard some good things about RR lately and played there a few Saturdays ago. It was in excellent condition with their new hybrid greens. The new speed/break combinations take some adjusting, but they are very consistent. I had not played at RR for several years because of their “policy” of Saturday pin placements – and after all these years they did not “disappoint” this particular Saturday. Almost all the pins were tucked along the edges. Reasonable approach shots can still leave you with 40′ birdie putts. I remember verbatim the comment a staffer said to me back in 2005, the last time I played there and was amazed by some of the pin placements and inquired after the round – “we like to mess with people on Saturdays”. After that I was reluctant to come back – too many other good courses ! around. Several years later they are still doing their US Open pin placements on Saturdays. Advice – enjoy the course because it is a great layout in great condition, just work on your long range putting before you get there. Or do what I have never done – play during the week.

      Jamie,
I have been here for a little over 3 years, and don’t know who would have said “we mess with people on Saturdays”, but nothing could be further from the truth. Our goal is ALWAYS to make the customer feel welcome, and to offer a well conditioned product. Saturdays are consistently our busiest day, and we would NEVER try to make the course more difficult by putting holes in extreme spots. We follow a rotation with 5 different areas, and yes, there are some tough holes in each of the 5 setup rotations. There is definitely no intent to make our busiest day tougher, which would only slow down play which is not good for anyone. Thanks for your comments, and I hope to see you again soon.

Thanks Ryan. I did not get a name of the employee, and it was a long time ago, but I did honestly quote him verbatim. Maybe he was joking, just was an odd comment at the time. We do plan on coming back in the near term. As far as the conditioning of the course is concerned, your superintendent and greens keeping staff are brilliant. Tough pins or not, I think the course is definitely one of the better in the Charlotte area.
