"Great course"
First time playing here --- very impressed with the greens as the Sunday Ultra-Dwarf Bermudagrass is as advertised! Very smooth and they roll true. A good variety of holes and good risk/reward shots as well. Hard to get into too much trouble here. Enjoyed it very...
I played at Rock Barn up near Hickory a couple of weeks ago thanks to a big discount on Click-It. This is where they play one of the Champions Tour Events. Having seen it on TV a little bit, I didn’t really have great expectations, but I was very pleasantly surprised. It was an absolutely beautiful course in great shape. You really had to think your way around on every shot. It amazes me how low those “old” guys can go on a course like that. Well worth the trip if you can get a discounted price. B-Man: You might want to think about adding this to your list of courses.
Rock Barn isn’t listed as a course here? I only make the trip up a couple times a year, but I have to say this is my favorite course around the area. Of course verdict ridge/ballentyne/tillery tradition would be a close 2nd
B-Man, you should add these to the list. Both sides are great tracks and a ‘should play’ for the area.
Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve never played there and their web site did not have scorecard information. If someone has a scorecard scan and can send it to me along with the usual sections I list for each course, I can add it.
If I’ve never played a course, it’s hard for me to add it to the site if the course doesn’t have good info on their web site.
I went today and played Rock Barn Jones today. The course is in good shape but I was underwhelmed. I play some during the week at Deer Brook in Shelby, quite frankly the quality of Rock Barn is no better than Deer Brook. The only difference is the reputation of Rock Barn because of the Champions tour that plays there.
I was lucky to be playing with someone who was familiar with the course witch helped but, I am not a fan of CPO when I am not familiar with the course.
Overall it was a treat but if I did not live 30 minutes away it would be a disapointment.
Played Glen Oaks today, which by the way is in (as always) incredible shape…I always feel like I am on vacation when I play there. Anyway, they tell me that they have been packed because ROCK BARN HAS BEEN CLOSED due to all the weather. Said they’ve already cancelled the Sr. Tour event in large part due to the areas they set up hospitality tents being washed out. That and they are not sure when they would be able to re-open the Jones course anyway due to all the damage from the whole season of rain followed by last weekend’s 10-12 inches. Not only Rock Barn, but he listed a whole bunch of other courses I wasn’t familiar with as being closed. I’d bet River Oaks is a mess and probably closed…They have a lot of low-lying areas.
Check in with rock barn. They closed down this past summer due to what happened in July with all the rain.
