"Great course"
Teed off around 12:40pm but didn't finish until 5:20pm. We had a few slow groups in front of us with no ranger on the course. I don't understand why you have a starter but no on-course marshal to control pace of play. That was really my only issue. The course was in...
Does anyone know about a course called FOXDEN in statesville?? Like the number, website, or anything?
I first played Fox Den in 1999, and it was the first time I ever broke par. I shot 69, so obviously I liked the course. I’ve only played it a few times since because it’s a long haul from my house. The course is normally in good shape, and the front and back nines are very different, with a wide variety of holes. I thought the overall layout was good, and the greens were just about perfect. If you like unique layouts, make the extra drive and give it a shot.
Anyone play this track recently? I’ve gone there to use their practice range on several occasions, but have not had the chance to play yet. Let’s hear it! Mahalo nui!!
played in the spring, fun layout. called a few days ago learned they airified. will be playing this track next thursday will let you know what conditions are.
Whats the word on this track? I have not seen anything really written about it and I hear that it is a great layout. I know that they built a huge clubhouse, but has anyone been up there recently?
I am telling everyone right now, and then I am not bringing it up again because I want this place all to myself. Fox Den Country Club is in Statesville and well worth the drive up 77 North. This is the closest thing to a mountain course that is within driving distance of Charlotte. The layout is like nothing else around here. The course was in fantastic shape with the greens rolling smooth and true. There is so much elevation change, with dramatic views and dropoffs. I loved every second of it. The prices are better than anyone in Charlotte. Give it a shot, I promise that you will be hooked.
Played for the first time today. Nice course, good layout, and it was in impeccable condition. Better yet, the green fee was $29! We teed off at 12:08, and were done by 4:00. It was pretty chilly today, so the course was pretty deserted, but I wasn’t complaining. Certainly worth visiting, but if I had my choice of courses 45 minutes from Charlotte, I would pick Verdict Ridge.
Played Fox Den on Wednesday (04/07/10) for the first time. I live in Charlotte and never made it up there before. I enjoyed it very much. The course was in good shape and the layout is incredible. I paid $24 as a senior, but I am not sure what the regular rate is. I will be back. It is a great change of pace from the courses in Charlotte. Well worth the 35 minute drive.
just to let folks know, Fox Den just aerated their greens.
Course in great shape. Greens healed nicely since they punched them 4 weeks ago. Wish the fairways were mowed on this visit but all in all still a great value.
Anybody recommend Fox Den for a 20 man golf outing in April? Really just looking for a course in good shape that time of year. A little worried about aeration since they have bent greens. Out of town guests- so clueless on this course.
Thanks
In the same area as Fox Den, Verdict Ridge is an infinitely better track, better conditioned, Bermuda greens that will be perfect. Glen Oaks is another close track, usually in great shape though not Bermuda greens. Fox Den is a distant third behind these, though not a bad place to play.
Bermuda greens will be anything but perfect in NC in April. Bermuda will either still be dormant or just coming out of dormancy. I agree that all three of these courses are good tracks and you can’t go wrong with any of the three, but bent greens should be better than Bermuda this time of year assuming no maintenance issues. Bermuda is better than bent in the summer but I would rather play bent greens the rest of the year.
Verdict Ridge is already in the rotation. I am looking for another course to pair with it. Need a place for a Saturday morning round and heard Glen Oaks has a dogfight each Saturday which would impact us. Rocky River? Looks like my final choice list is Rocky River and Fox Den. Staying off exit 36 on the lake, and willing to drive 30-40 minutes or so……any other options? How bad is Mallard Head???
Any recent reviews of Warrior? It looks close to where we are staying. Heard all troubles with Birkdale, is it still terrible out there?
Another course to consider is Skybrook. It’s not that far from where you will be staying. Great track, and conditions have vastly improved since it is no longer a Carolina Trail course.
I live off Exit 23 and play up this way as often as not…From Exit 36, the Warrior is a great course and easily accessible, about 20 mins. Fox Den is almost always in great shape, less than 15 mins. From where you are staying, Rock Barn is about as close (35 mins?), and an easier drive, than Verdict Ridge (30 mins?) if you want to go for 36 in a day.
looks like stonebridge bought fox den on may 1st in a story found on clickit under fox den.
Thanks, panthersfann55. Here’s the story:
Fox Den Golf Club in Statesville, N.C. is pleased to announced new ownership as of May 1, 2014
