"Worth playing"
Got out to Springfield as I make my rounds for the updated Top 10 list (coming in May). This course has never left a great impression on me but I tried again to see if I could come to appreciate it. I made some strides in that direction, but a few things keep this course...
Played Eagle Chase on 1/16 and the course was in good shape. The greens were suprisingly fast. (price was $30 for a noon tee-time).
I suggest if you are in the Charlotte area, you should travel to Marshville to play this track.
Played Eagle Chase on 9/16. Course in overall average condition. Fairways are in good shape and bermuda rough is thick. Stay in the fairways! Greens are in fair condition. Every green has some spots here and there. This course is a good challenge from the tips with some unique holes that reminder you of a mountain course.
Played Eagle Chase on Monday 05-25. Course is in good shape. After all the rain it was still 90 degree rule. The greens a little slow. Had to be due to the rain and not being able to cut them. If the greens were faster I would move this course to the great column. Please play this course it is worth the drive. Green fees are very reasonable.
Course in great shape. played a $30 play all day deal on Thursday.
give eagle chase 1 more week and they should be good to go. they punched holes a few weeks ago and laid fertilizer on the greens thursday when we played. the fairways are starting to come in nice.
eagle chase is in good shape now. greens in good shape, but they will punch greens april 26-27. bunkers need a little work though.
Played on Sunday 7/18.
Fairways in good shape but the greens are the worst I have seen. Several burnt out and there is no consistent speed to any of the greens.
I really do like the layout of the course but just cannot recommend it until it recovers
I have tee times here on Oct 27….anyone played recently? coming from canada…returning to charlotte from pinehurst….stopping to play here. looks ok….great price….any comments? thx
greens are fair at best – first 6 are poor / rest of course is ok
Greens punched about 2 weeks ago. By October 27, they should be in great shape. You will love this course if the layout suits your game
few spots here and there on the greens but did not effect the putts at all (pins were away from the trouble spots anyway). fairways brown (normal this time of year) rough medium height but you could find your ball. first time back since early june when the greens started to go. well worth the trip now especially with clickit $25 deal. shot 78 so no real complaints here.
I have heard an unconfirmed rumor that Eagle Chase will be closing. I hope this isn’t true as it would be a total shame to see this happen. Does anyone know if this is a truth or not?
I received a quick reply from Wally Moore, the general manager, and he simply said “We are not closing.”
That is good to hear….thanks.
Eagle Chase will be redoing their greens in April. Changing to some type of zoysia, which supposedly does well in heat, requires little watering, grows in both shade and sun. They will be softening the contours of 4 greens – 2,3,12, and 14. Supposedly the whole process will take only 32 days. Now if they could only do something with the cart paths…
Any word on whether Eagle Chase has finished redoing the greens and opened all 18 holes?
Full course open this weekend. May be a few weeks for conditions to ripen…
Coming up tomorrow for the Wells Fargo this week, Have a tee time at Eagle Chase @ 11am thanks to suggestions from this website. Hopefully the weather service has wrongly predicted Mother Nature and the storms hold off until at least late afternoon. Any advice on the course for 2 mid-handicappers?
biggest thing is to take an extra club or 2 on certain holes. on #4 1 extra, #5 2 extra to the middle, #6 go with your gut its all downhill it does play it’s true yardage, #9 one extra from the fairway, #11 go for the green in 2, #15 2 extra, 17 1 extra if u end up by the drain on the right. played this past fri and greens were quick. don’t over think it focus on speed. the practice green reflects the course greens which is very rare.
