Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation

"Great course"

10/20/26: Review by B-Man

Olde Sycamore is now one of the more dependable public courses for conditions and rates. It is a fun layout where you don't need driver off the tee very often and I've played it for over 2 decades. So it feels like an old friend when I get back here to play. The greens...

This course typically has great maintenance with really good greens but they are letting them die to resurface....wish I would have known before driving 65 mins. Greens were crusty, mostly dead and extremely hard with most shots running over the back of the green. Other areas like fairways needed mown. Definitely the worst condition I ever seen for this track. Course will reopen in August after new greens come in.

First time playing. Good test from the tips, better have tunnel vision on drives. Be mindful of runout in fairway to water on several holes #1, #5, #17. #5 is the hardest hole on the course...dogleg right with the lake on the right and trees then creek through the fairway. Greens were good speed with a few patchy areas. Needs some work in several areas. Area around practice green looked horrible in some spots but don't let that dissuade you from playing.

Played the tips..few mud balls due to recent rains. Greens were decent speed but not very receptive (many iron shots and pitches ran off the green). First time here in 8 years. Do like the look with the renovations. Rates are reasonable.

The newly added GPS to the carts works well. Course was in very good condition with the recent rains. Would give it 5 stars if the greens weren't slow.

No drinking water on the course! No sand in bunkers! 1st green has major turf damage in the front part of the green! Most greens were ok but had burnt areas...better than the old carolina trail greens though which have disease and missing turf in every green Several tees had little or no grass Many areas I would classify as "GR" or "Goat Ranch" No plans on going back Some rough areas were not mown

Extremely well maintained course with medium-fast greens. Only 2 other groups on the course and never had to wait.

Greens are well kept but on the slower side due to afternoon watering from lack of rain but hold very well. Fairways are mainly brown (shades of green as the USGA likes to say :) and run fast. Some tees need repair but overall worth playing with the reduced Golfnow rates.

Noticed this course on this site and curious if anyone has played it yet? Mooresville is pretty close and with lower rates for seniors even on weekends and typical course conditions will be hard to beat.
