"Worth playing"

8/13/22: Review by GinMillDJ

Fairways were in great shape. Bunkers normal. Greens were extremely soft and there were a tone of ball marks that were not repaired. Fun course but a haul from Charlotte. Rangers did not do a great job keeping the pace of play on track. We skipped a hole on the back...

I am getting eager to see the new improvements as they are finished. I am still kind of disappointed in the lack of ball washers and small things of the sort. I've played it a lot, and now have a golf GPS, but the new to Red Bridge golfer will still have a really difficult time given that the layout of the course will be virtually unknown. I think this has a lot to do with the fact that the course was open and updates and upgrades were put on halt during the crunch. They're building new Tee Boxes on a few holes according to one of the Rangers, and I did see that one on the #11 Par 3. The clubhouse is in the books too. Its pretty clear that there is construction progressing around the course given the activity I have seen. So its a good sign that money is starting to roll in more reliably and we'll be seeing more improvements as time goes on. As for the course, conditions were excellent. Only the #17 fairway seems to need a lot of work given the sheer amount of divots but that is the outlier. The course is in great shapes and the greens are in great shape as always. This course probably over maintains the greens, as the dwarf bermuda doesn't require as much as they're really giving it. But that can only be a GOOD thing. Close to the end of September and they are looking like they did months ago. The only thing that annoys me is the old guy who's always in the #10 & #18 area collecting lost balls to obviously sell. Its distracting when you've gotta worry about hitting him and he won't move. hehe

I wanted to make sure I took back my green comments. I played again today, twice. First round was all to myself; nobody was out there. I was the first one there. The greens were absolutely perfect. Veeeeeeeeery few blemishes, and the apparent dimples have either been cut out and pressed out. I scored horribly; dang this course is difficult!

I have to say, this course is well designed. Great layout, and somewhat difficult. The fairways were in great shape. The rough did have some dead clippings. I'm surprised that they cut it and left it like that, but its no biggie. It was just in contrast with the overall beauty of the course. The greens were bloody fast like the other reviewer of the day posted. However, they did do some punching recently enough that the greens were a little perforated. That's why I didn't give it a 5 out of 5 stars. It just pissed me off when I tapped it on a good line and when it slowed down near the hole it wobbled around and stopped. It wasn't a big deal but these greens are somewhat difficult, and when they're fast you have to rely on those last few slow inches; otherwise too fast and it will roll on by. I wanted to take out a shotgun and blast the ball to pieces where it lie. That said, the greens were in excellent and pretty much unblemished shape for this late in the season. I am guessing they're using Mini-Verde; its a much firmer surface. To beginners that might stop by this site and read. Be ware that you have to place your tee shots well. The fairways deliver a lot of bounce upon receipt of the ball. Several of mine bounced right off of the bloody fairway. Definitely a more challenging course, and not for the feint of heart. As for my game, I started off great. Then I caught up to the groups in front and fell apart. I always do that.

Went back to RR today. I must say, they are taking action on the greens and they aren't as bad as they were several weeks ago when I played last. I didn't see any burrows today and there were fewer spots of crab grass. I was able to 2 putt, and in a few cases, 1 putt some of the holes so it is better. There still are several that have bare spots, but they didn't come into play for me. Fairways were well kept and the sand was excellent. Tee boxes were good. I broke 110 for the first time in ages. I know that isn't that great, but for someone who never took it seriously before and just started back up it isn't bad. Its largely because of the horrible start that I had. I could have shaved 12 strokes off by hitting the range before my round to get the kinks out, and by improving on putting.

Played this course today and once again got chased off by weather. However, we made it to the 16th hole today so it wasn't that bad. The fairways are pretty chewed up in spots, but it is a public course and it gets its share of traffic. No issues there. The greens are indeed a bit beat up as the previous reviewer stated, but its not all that bad. I managed to 2 putt most of them from various distances. I might care more if I were a better golfer, but I'm not there yet. My main issue arose when we were leaving due to the storm. They shouldn't be letting people go out when a heavy storm with severe lightning has been sighted near by within a mile or so. Where I come from some places would send rangers out to round people up. Sure, golf at your own risk, but you can't be letting people start off or play through the back nine just because they want to tough it out. Administratively that is just irresponsible.

I didn't finish the course unfortunately because of the rain, but the 7 holes that I did play were all in great shape. The greens were a bit marked, but I'd think that its expected at this point in the season. The staff is friendly..... it being my first time there I was kinda "lost." Tried to start off at the 10th tee. The starter came over and put me on the right path after my goofy error. Gave me a pamphlet with the course layout too. Can't wait to go back. Got a $16 credit since I stopped after 7. They've got great rates at 6 PM. 16 bucks for a round.

The course itself was wet still in places from the recent rain. However, the heat of the day dried most of that off. The fairways were just fine. One or two bare spots here and there, but its been a while since we've gotten decent rain and its been hot. That wasn't a big deal to me, as it isn't going to realistically affect your game. The traps were hard and some of them had spots of erosion due to the very recent rain. They may have neglected them due to the coming rain for today. The problems lie in the greens. A few have bare spots, but they are small. Most, if not all of them have weeds growing through them. They're obviously mowed down, but they will affect ball speed and direction; some of them substantially. There were a few greens with Red Velvet Ant burrows, the 16th was bad at the front edge, but that really isn't the fault of the course... They can't stop them from burrowing. However, the weeds are unfortunate. I would have loved to rate the course well based on the rest of the course, but the greens are just..... unfortunate. Twilight is recommended for golfers who want to hunt for balls when its empty behind them. A lot of balls in the deep stuff, in the weeds, and in the wooded areas. Just be careful that you aren't picking up a ball that someone else like me just flew in, hehe.

Fairways were in good shape. Having been on a golfing hiatus for the past two years, I didn't have much trouble hitting off of them. Any trouble was linked to my degrading skills rather than the surface. Considering the horrible heat and increasingly sparse rain, I'd say the fairways looked good. The greens could use a little attention, as old divot marks and debris was somewhat plentiful. However, it didn't do too much to affect putting. The pace on Friday morning wasn't bad, and it allowed for us to play as a twosome. We had a twosome ahead and behind. A foursome up the way slowed things down a bit, but that was just the contrasting numbers, and it wasn't all that abnormal. The folks behind hit into us a few times, and it really got annoying. I can understand how annoying it can be when people are going dismally slow, but there is no excuse for hitting into somebody because you're in a hurry to be a Pro. That is dangerous. Next time I report it! ;) In conclusion, The Warrior is a great course that won't force you to remove an arm to play. I will definitely play this one again as I begin my re-emergence into the golf world!
