Olde Sycamore is now one of the more dependable public courses for conditions and rates. It is a fun layout where you don't need driver off the tee very often and I've played it for over 2 decades. So it feels like an old friend when I get back here to play.

Love this course. First time playing it and enjoyed every minute. Great par 5's. This course really makes you think but isn't overly penal. Facilities are kind of minimalist but well worth it for a day trip.
Kind of a mixed bag on this review. I rarely play on the north side of town and this was my first time playing here. Did not realize at time of booking that this is part of the Charlotte Mecklenburg parks system (more on that later).
This facility and course certainly has its quirks. There is a driving range at the front of the facility which is inaccessible by carts if you're playing a round. The back of the range is accessible by carts and is grass but limited in space.
Personally I am not a fan of the course design. Played the green tees and felt like there were a number of holes where the hole design forced you to hit less than driver into some awkward second shots. Had several holes where the fairway slopes off into an abyss of a creek.
As it is a county parks course I should not have been surprised that it was loud at times. I heard a number of f-bombs from adjacent holes (and a few holes which were not so close....).
Finishing on a high note here. Although I didn't care for the course itself it was in really good shape. Greens and tees were in great shape. There are some areas of wash out adjacent to cart paths but this did not affect play. Hats off to the grounds crew there who are doing a great job on what I assume is limited resources. Staff was nice and friendly.
Overall the course is in good condition. First time playing there - there are definitely a few site lines you will need to get familiar with which will help you score. My main criticism is the lack of par 3 variety - I believe I hit the same club on at least 3 (possibly all 4) of the par 3 holes. They are doing a lot of tree removal on the course which will provide some real benefits once complete.
This course is quickly becoming one of my South Charlotte favorites. Course conditions are better each time I play. Greens are in great shape. There are a few tee boxes which are still somewhat bare but most are in good/great shape. Staff here is always friendly. Love the variety of holes. Everything plays fair. Lots of good things happening here.
Staff was great and super nice. Great driving range for warm-up. Course has a good mix of holes to play. This place has a lot of potential for improvement.
Now on to the current conditions. I was made aware at time of booking and check in that there were issues with the greens (appreciative of the staff to do that). There remains significant damage on the greens despite them being midway through the rebuild and recovery. Unfortunately there was also a lot of grass-free tees. And sand-free bunkers. I know that we are in the midst of a drought but the fairways were also thin and hard-packed.
The rate was reflective of the current conditions so if you want to get out there and hammer it around have at it.
It's such an easy location to get to I really hope they can get everything back into shape.
Noticed this course on this site and curious if anyone has played it yet? Mooresville is pretty close and with lower rates for seniors even on weekends and typical course conditions will be hard to beat.
