Cramer Mountain Club is a hidden gem located just 16 miles west of Charlotte. Designed in 1985 by the legendary Dan Maples family, the course sits on 184 acres and features extreme elevation changes. Playing 6,456 yards from the black tees, the length of the course is not daunting, however, the topography and challenging shot-making make Cramer Mountain Club stand out. The golf course was re-energized by multi-million dollar improvements in 2014 by Head Superintendent Paul Stroman and Golf Course Services, Inc. - the team that has renovated Augusta National and Quail Hollow. The changes include: new bermuda ultra dwarf greens, new cart paths, 37 bunker renovations, new bermuda fairways, redesign of green complexes on holes 12 and 17, full irrigation system renovation, and GPS touch screens on carts giving real-time yardages, driving distance, weather updates and food & beverage ordering.
This course is private but is running great membership specials in 2016 as they continue to make improvements - initiation fees range from $2000-$5000 and monthly dues from $100-$270, depending on the membership type. They also offer financing options to spread the initiation fee over 3-5 years.
The GM Joe Campbell invited me and my dad out on 4/2 to play the course and see all of the improvements. I must say I was impressed. Joe gave us a personal tour of all of the improvements that have been made and the ones that are still in progress. This course is on the opposite side of town from where I live but very convenient to uptown Charlotte off of I-85 south. I would be very interested in membership if I lived closer. Look for reviews on this course soon and go check it out if you are looking for a private course to call home. Tell Joe I referred you and he will hook you up.
