- "Great course"
You'll be hard pressed to find a better all around golf experience in the great state of NC.
My second time since Sep of 2024, this time with a 3 others who've never played it.
Like any other course, you'll experience some challenges your first time around and after that, you will play some holes completely different.
This is rural Carolina golf in Randolph County and it feels like it.
The word is of all the Stranz courses, this was his favorite and it's easy to see why. It's so plush and green, the natural landscape is scattered with boulders that are designed to create exceptional views.
I especially like there are 5, yes FIVE Par 3's, all reasonably short and accessible. The Waterfall hole #15 is a work of golf art, just spectacular.
It was a great experience from the beginning. Ron, the starter and cart attendant helped us with our bags and was very friendly and professional. Jack & Keith in the clubhouse got us checked in quickly and directed us back to Ron to give us the low down on current course conditions, pace of play, cart operation etc. They are EV's with GPS included.
When Ron told us about the 'out of bounds' play guidelines and recommended we not go in the woods and mentioned rattlesnakes and copperheads, that got our attention.
It's an easy rural drive of about 1.5 hours from Charlotte and you'll be rewarded with a memorable golf experience. Read The Review

- "Best of the best"
This place was amazing. Was the first round of a guy's golf weekend and was a great way to kick it off. The views are quite dramatic with lots of elevation changes...just absolutely beautiful. The greens are insane. Multiple tiers, undulating, and incredibly fast. Putting was a significant percentage of my overall strokes, so be prepared for some frustration and to just laugh at the ridiculousness and move onto the next.

- "Best of the best"
Beautiful, scenic course. Eye candy everywhere, with dramatic elevation changes and holes artistically sculpted into the natural terrain. It's not for the faint of heart. Landing areas are very generous, but there is trouble around 75% of the greens, much of it close to the putting surfaces. If your approaches are not solid, you are going to struggle. You are also going to 3-putt. Greens are massive with a lot of slope. A couple (mid-green tier on number 8 and false front on number 17) are comically severe, with slopes exceeding probably 15 degrees. The Prism zoysia is a consistent surface with no grain. It rolls relatively slow, which is a good thing for greens with so much slope. Course conditions overall were exceptional. At $150, this is a once-a-year special treat for me, but one that does not disappoint. Read The Review

- "Great course"
This was my third time playing Tot Hill Farm since it reopened in September. This course has already been labeled a love it or hate it type Stranz design. I have really enjoyed all three rounds. The review is for our round on 11/22/2023.
The staff is very friendly and work with you to make sure you have a great experience. We were early arriving from Charlotte and they asked if we could go out 30 minutes early to get in front of an outing. This probably reduced our round by at least 30 minutes. Thanks!!!
The course is in great condition. The Zoysia greens are getting some speed in them as they had to leave them a little long when the course first reopened. The 1500 trees that were removed during the work in the summer has resulted in better views of where you need to hit the ball and doesn't "pinch" you in as much. The fairways are generous but it does help if you know exactly were the best angle is to get to the correct tier on the green.
My favorite hole is the par 3 15th. The waterfall behind the green is a great touch. The par 3's on the back nine all have water so make sure you carry the ball onto the green.
This course rates in my personal top 10, which some may question but it is my top 10. Will definitely play again in 2024. Read The Review

- "Great course"
Got to play the newly restored Mike Strantz gem Tot Hill Farm in the season opening event for TheGrint Tour NC. The course looks to be back to its former glory. The conditions were very good and the greens, while slow for now as the new Prizm Zoysia grows in, were very consistent. I struggled to get the ball to the hole early and often. So make sure you hit putts confidently and aggressively.
This is a love it or hate it course for most people. I'm more towards the love it side, but I wouldn't play this course too often. It is tough! It's a very unique layout, with dramatic elevation changes, visually intimidating tee shots and approach shots, and sometimes downright goofy multi-tiered greens. A round here becomes an adventure very quickly.
The layout features 5 par 5's and 5 par 3's, with back to back par 5's on the front side. The closing stretch includes a short, risk reward par 5, a long par 4 road hole, and a tricky, severely uphill par 5. Common features on nearly every hole: rocks, boulders, streams, bunkers and severely sloped or tiered greens. These make for some very tight, target golf tee shots and approaches. On some holes, you need to hit a 5-10 yard radius target or you will find trouble. It's exhilarating and frustrating at the same time.
The new owners took great care to restore the course to Strantz' original design intentions and it's a visually stunning course. With the renovations, which also included a revitalized clubhouse, lounge, porches and "Strantz Room", the price to play increased and is now around $110. The further in advance you book your tee time, the better deal you can get. I recommend looking ahead several weeks for a $70 tee time if you know you want to play here.
Tobacco Road is still my favorite Strantz design by far, but I'm happy to see Tot Hill Farm restored and worthy of the Strantz name again. Read The Review
