My first time out at Deer Brook and I loved the layout. It's scenic, with several elevated spots where you can see several holes at once (I love courses like that, a la Eagle Chase). It's challenging with elevation changes, fast, tiered greens, and water in play on 3 of the last 5 holes. For my round, the greens were in good shape and rolling great. It was crazy windy (30-40mph gusts at times) so that made the course play harder – though it allowed me to nearly drive the first green with the wind at my back. The aesthetics take a minor hit with lots of holes framed by power lines but at least they don't buzz like the ones at Birkdale. Otherwise, I loved the layout. It felt very wide open and straightforward with only a few exceptions where the landing areas were narrow and bordered by OB or hazards. The par 3's are all tricky with most requiring a long carry. The closing 2 holes offer great risk-reward with the short par 5 17th requiring a 2nd or 3rd shot to carry a large pond and the long par 4 18th requiring a similar carry over water for your approach. Even though I suffered from some difficult putts due to the slopes, I enjoyed the challenging greens and I am sure they are even tougher when the green speeds are ratcheted up. Speaking of the greens, Deer Brook is one of the last public courses in the area with Bentgrass greens. So if you prefer them over Bermuda, Deer Brook is a great course for you. I had lunch and drinks at Mulligan's on the covered patio watching March Madness before my round. It's a great spot with a wide variety of menu items. Overall, I had a great first visit and will be back a few times a year now that I know what I'm missing. Read The Review

Deer Brook is a very nice, great value. Worth the drive from Fort Mill. I belong to a club and course, my home course is penalizing if you get crooked. I played White Tees which is about 6400-6500 yards. On almost every hole, you can be a little crooked and still have reasonable play to green. Other than 18, even longer par 4's did not seem to play long. Greens were bit slow but in excellent shape. Nice fairways. Would definitely play at Deer Brook again. I played front with another guy then back by myself. Was easily on pace for round under 3 hours until I ran into slow threesome on 15 :-) Read The Review

One of Charlotte's hidden gems. For $45 on the weekend you will be hard pressed to find a better course for the price. It is in my top 5 public courses to play. Only downside is the drive. One hour from Charlotte. Maybe more depending on where you live.
Driving range: Average
Chipping area: Sloping/great condition.
Putting green: Right next to tee #1. Big enough.
Course: You will use every club in your bag. Elevations, doglegs, good mix of big fairways and narrow as well. Tree lined and very beautiful. This course never disappoints. Depending on where pins are located, this course can present many challenges on the greens. Bring your A game putting.
Clubhouse: Very friendly staff. Good size dining area and has a wrap-around balcony that overlooks the 18th green for a 19th hole beverage and entertainment.
Highly recommend. Read The Review

This is always one of my favorite courses, great layout with a good variety of holes. Tees, fairways and the one bunker I was in were all in very good shape, but the big surprise to me was the greens. Not that they weren't good, but it seems a lot of the people who play there must all have back problems. The greens had tons of unfixed ball marks, especially on the front portions of the greens. Had a few putts that bounced off the marks, and that is not the fault of the superintendent let me make that clear. Putts that did not hit any marks rolled very smoothly, I just had a little difficulty reading them but that's just me. Again, always an enjoyable round there. Read The Review

Deer Brook is a real gem. Some maintenance work going on this Monday (aerating some fairways and teeboxes) but overall a great experience. This one is well worth the drive from CLT. The only thing that I do not like, and this is one of my huge pet peeves, is marking of hazards and areas which should be, and now can, be marked "penalty areas" to speed up play and so players can know what their options are. Always a pleasure to play Deer Brook. Always in excellent condition, particularly this time of year. They had sodded a large section of the par 5 fairway, but it doesn't seem an area reachable by driver nor likely for a lay-up. Some issues with unattended ball marks on the greens, but those are player's faults, not the course's. Fairways, teeboxes, greens all in great shape. Wasn't in a trap, but they looked just fine. Greens were a bit faster than those I've played anywhere else around Charlotte this year. Read The Review

Overall this course was in great shape. For those of you that haven't given Deer Brook a chance you should find the time to make the drive. Greens were in very good shape given the rough winter and the time of year for aeration. They aerated the first week of June so they have recovered very well with no signs at all of any punch marks. Fairways were in very good shape, and bunkers were well maintained. There really wasn't anything at all to complain about the day that I was playing, short of it being slow play. That isn't the courses fault though, just happened to be how it went, but still finished in the standard 4 1/2 hours. Overall given the many other courses I have played around the area recently, Deer Brook ranks near the very top for course quality, layout, and condition. Read The Review

First time at this course. The course was in great condition - fairways - very good, greens - good, VERY soft, a little slow, lots of undulations/breaks. I had trouble reading the greens accurately so there were more than normal 3 putts.
I played the black tees about 5800+ yds. Some of the par 4's the 2nd shots were a little long for me (71 yrs old - drives about 200, 3-wood about 175).
ProShop attendant was very helpful. I was by myself so he started me on the back 9. It was great, didn't catch anyone for the whole 18 holes. 3.5 hours, sometimes hitting 2 balls.
Since I live an hour away I probably won't be able to get back very often but this course is definitely one of my favorites in the Charlotte area.
BTW the GolfPad gps app worked fine. I understand a few of the holes had been changed.
The correct website is golfdeerbrook.com. If you do a search it will bring up deerbrookgolf.net which is the old site before the renovation. Read The Review

First time at this course and I was very impressed with the conditions. Tee boxes good, fairways in great shape, greens as close to perfect as you will see in the area. Bunkers in good shape also. I like the layout and the dramatic elevation changes. Only negative was there was no starter so it was tough to tell when you were up and they were pretty busy. Overall on par with Edgewater but not as far for me. Read The Review

What a treat! My first visit and the trip (40) minutes was worth every second. The course was almost empty. Kinda a special surprise on a sunny Tuesday. Where do I start? The tee boxes were the best around. The fairways not perfect, but growing in nicely. Was able to play the ball down without to many bare lies. The fairway bunkers and green side traps all had plenty of sand and were very consistent. The greens were really nice. They were smooth and the putts rolled quick. The pin placements were unusually tough for a weekday. I was impressed with how many different elevations there were on each green. Course knowledge is helpful. I didn't have any but I was lucky all the way round. I will certainly head back, soon. Read The Review

Without a doubt, this is the best course for the money in the greater Charlotte area. The conditions were almost perfect, everyone was incredibly hospitable, and the pace of play was good. The greens were better than any public course and many private courses I have played in the area. Also, on Sunday, there is an incredible lunch buffet that tons of people, who are not playing golf, come to. It's only ten dollars. My only gripe is when I called to ask about the replay rate I was told it was ten dollars but it was actually 17, ten is a nine hole replay. This place is well worth the drive. Read The Review

$25 for 18 holes (Sr. Rate - 55+) on a Friday is not too shabby, particularly for one of the best conditioned courses in the area with one of the nicest layouts. Seemed slow - played in a twosome and there was a fivesome out there and a very cute cart girl everyone was flirting with which slowed things down - but it only took 3.5 hours. I rate this place up there with Verdict Ridge, Carolina Lakes, etc. Playing lousy, so don't laugh at my score, please. Read The Review

Wow, i was totally impressed with this course. From tee to green everything was pristine. I loved everything about this course from the layout to the quickness of the greens. The only thing that left a little snicker was the power lines on the 2 par 3's buzzing that just sounded sketchy. They don't affect play, and aren't anywhere else on the course. For the price this course is just perfect, though it is about a 50 minute drive from Charlotte Read The Review
