Course was in OK shape given the amount of rain we have gotten. Several areas with drainage/moisture problems. A few tee boxes were aerated and sanded. Bunkers were solid and greens were in better shape than typical at this course and rolled decent.

I received a give card for the Ballantyne Resort Golf Club for Valentines day and decided to us it this past Sunday. What a great experience. From the guys at the bag drop, to the starter, to the course ranger and even the concession stand at the turn. Top notch service that was friendly and helpful(the starter does a great job with helping first time players navigate the course and on how to play the greens). The ranger provided us with towels soaking in ice water on #10 that probably spoiled me for any future rangers I meet. The course was near immaculate. Greens are definitely fast but fair, sand is raked and fluffy and fairways are in great condition. The only minor complaint is some par 3 tee boxes were chewed up but all they have to do is move the tee area back or to the side. Looks like they were the same tee placement from Saturday. For Valentines or Fathers Day ask for a gift card to Ballantyne Golf resort. You'll enjoy it much more than a bad tie or a box of chocolates.

I haven't had many opportunities to play Charlotte courses this year but I got a nice surprise with Renaissance this past Friday. I'm going to focus my review on the course condition because that is really all that matters when playing a muni course. They are repairing some fairways (#1 being the worst) for drainage I presume and their are some sod repairs on a few greens. Most shots will not be effected by the work and the sod looks like it is taking fine on the greens (will be seamless come fall). The tee boxes are in fine shape but not consistently level and the fairways are green with some fluff to hit off of. The traps are not white and fluffy but they are maintained and raked. Greens are cut a little high, play slow and are soft but that is most likely done intentionally to preserve them due to the recent heat wave. With the budget limitations of a muni course a lot of credit needs to be given to the superintendent and his staff. They have focused there efforts in the right places and it shows. I stopped playing here about 4 years ago because of the conditions and started going to Regent because of the location but no more. Only the sand traps and level tee boxes are better there. If you are like me and gave up on Renaissance then I suggest giving it a mulligan. I played for $36 last second on a Friday and it was great. Exactly what a muni course should be and with the work they are doing it will only be in better conditions for the future.

2nd time playing Regent Park and the conditions were much better than my previous review. Construction still taking place on the range but the tee box area was well maintained as was everything else around the clubhouse. The tee boxes, fairway and sand traps were in very good conditions. The sand traps were some of the best I have seen all year. They were dry, raked and soft. The greens were beat up but there was a company tournament there before we played and they did not repair many marks. I'm not a grass expert but I believe the type of grass on the greens does not do well this time of the year. Emerald Lake looks like they have the same grass and their greens are in comparable shape to Regent Park. Golf Now deal for $15 plus the fact I broke 90 for the first time made this a great day of golf. Most of the course is 5 stars but greens are 3.

Carolina Lakes is a great golf course. Tee boxes, fairways and their many sand traps were all in great condition and well maintained. Their driving range, putting green and chipping green were also in good condition. They have a nice club house and a conviently placed grill outside to speed you up at the turn. They even have water on the course and a cart girl that I saw 5 times over the round and a ranger that I saw 3 times driving around. Fun layout that makes you hit good drives or you will be in one of the many fairway bunkers.

Greens were in great shape, tee boxes were a little hairy and the fairways were a little thin in spots. Bunkers were awful but with the recent heavy rains I don't think the course had much control over that. I'm giving 3.5 stars because of the amenities. The range was awful. Balls were dirty, scuffed or split. The range hitting area itself hasn't been cut in days and your target area is a wasteland. Nothing to aim at and most of it looks as if they are doing some type of construction. Another big negative is that they have no water or beverages available on the course. They have the spots made but don't take the time to put a cooler in there and they didn't even have a beverage cart. 90 degrees and 60% humidity make for an awfully long day when you have to wait 9 holes to get a drink. You can find cheaper courses with just as nice conditions and better amenities all over Charlotte.

I always have a good time at this course. Not too tough and its wide open. Grass is still dormant and the tee boxes have grass starting to pop up. Sand traps were actually maintained and raked which is unfortunately not the norm for Charlotte courses. The greens have been punched very recently but putts rolled surprisingly well considering the conditions. One of the friendliest staffs in Charlotte and the young lady running concessions gets you in and out quickly at the turn. No starter or marshals to be seen so the first 2 holes on each side were slow but the players kept it moving. This is definitely worth playing for high handicappers like me or someone trying to get back in to golf shape like me. Maybe give it a couple weeks for the greens to fill in to get the most bang for your buck. They are also starting to build a true clubhouse which will be a nice addition to the course.

The current course conditions are not worth $42. Overall the course is in average condition but a couple holes are trash and some greens have bare spots. The par 5 5th and par 4 6th are under repair. The fifth hole is now a 150yd par 3 and the 6th has a patchwork fairway. The tee boxes are in fine shape as are the bunkers. I will say the staff is friendly, the practice areas are nice and I saw a grounds keeper repairing ball marks on the greens which is unusual to see. Fun course but overpriced. Play for less than $30 if you can find a deal but for $42 there are better options. I'll try them again in the spring.

2nd time here and I really enjoyed it. The new greens look great and appear to be taking well. They are still being cut a little long, which is understandable, so putting was slow. Some tee boxes were a little beat up but that was the exception. Fairways were in fine condition and the weather was perfect. My only complaint was the rough. The rough was recently cut so there were large clumps of dead grass lining every fairway. It made it tough to find tee shots that missed the fairway. Overall I had a great time and really enjoyed the course.

Fun, friendly and affordable. Not many frills at this course which is evident by the double wide trailer that serves as the pro shop/snack bar and the driving range that looks like a goat ranch so don't run because of first impressions. The course makes up for the lack of amenities. The fairways and tee boxes are in good shape and the greens were better than anything I have played on the Carolina Trail recently, with the exception of #15 that was in awful condition. Not sure how 17 greens can be so good and one be so bad. The greens were very soft so ball marks were an issue and golfers’ not repairing their marks are just inconsiderate. The course has some water but is pretty much wide open with no houses to be seen. There is a small airport nearby but the low flying planes give the place character but some may find them distracting. Overall a very fun course with a very friendly staff and a great recommendation by the message board.

I really like this course....except when it rains. Unfortunately our tee time was in the morning and we had rain for 5 holes. There was a lot of standing water and no covers on the carts for your clubs. Hopefully Emerald Lakes can replace their burnt carts with carts that have rain covers. The fairways, tee boxes and greens look healthy. No bare spots for the most part but the greens need some work. Ball marks are a problem and a few holes have problems with weed growth. The greens did roll well and it appeared as if they place the pin in the "good" areas of the green. Not sure if that was intentional or just luck but they need to be aerated and seeded before I recommend or play this course again. $45 is a fair Sunday morning price and pace was great due to the weather. I would still choose this course over most of the Carolina Trail courses that are in the South Charlotte area…..except when it rains.

I have never been unhappy with the overall condition of this course. They aerated the greens a couple weeks ago so you will run into some punches that haven't recovered yet but that should not be an issue in a week or 2. Some sand traps were in bad shape. Not sure if they are doing maintenance or not because there is different sand on some holes. But again all issues were isolated. The 18th green was the worse of the bunch but that was because the geese turned it into there own personal toilet it’s a shame that nothing can be done with the geese. I definitely recommend this course to anyone. Just watch where you step on the 18th.

Great bang for your buck. 3rd time I've played this course and the conditions are the best that I have seen. Tee boxes, fairways and greens were all in good shape. Some bunkers need some work but luckily I was able to stay out of them. Place was packed because of the weekend weather and the $29 deal you can get online but it was worth it. If you haven't played here or played a few months ago I would recommend it. I was genuinely surprised by how nice the fairways have come in and greens are fast but look near perfect. Its nice to play a Carolina Trail course besides Birkdale and come away happy with the course conditions.

This course is hard as a rock. Greens are in good condition but fast and hard. Fairways are covered in grass but nothing fluffy, very thin lies. Tee boxes were hard enough that you had to work to get your tees in the ground. Good drives will roll a long way thanks to the conditions. Not sure if the course can withstand the summer heat so I would recommend you play it now. Pace was good and starter and marshalls were real helpful with a troublesome group behind us.

2nd time I have played this course and I'm not sure I will be back anytime soon. Both times I've played the pace has been extremely slow. Not sure why but it is frustrating having to wait on every box and every approach. The conditions were ok. Greens have been aerated in the last month but were no real issue however some tee boxes were in bad shape and forget about the sand traps. Some rain the day before made the traps play like you were hitting off clay one was completely washed out. With recent weather I was expecting a nice green manicured course but that was not the case and I can't imagine it will get better as the weather gets hot. If it weren't for clickit I would not play this course but for $32 I got my moneys worth.

I really enjoyed this course. Started at 1:30 and had the place to ourselves. This is not an overly tough course. The fairways were open and the greens were big. Some hills would give you the occasional blind tee shot or approach shot but that is only on a few holes. If you are hitting good off the tee you can have fun on this course. Greens were in great condition, fairways still dormant but in good condition. Hole 16 had a "bunker/natural area" behind the green that was awful. Not sure what is going on there but overall the course was nice. Hopefully the course holds up to the warm weather to come because I look forward to playing here again. $34 on clickit is a great price but I would pay $52 to play on the weekend.

First time playing Skybrook and still undecided. $69 is the normal rate for this time of year but clickit had a discount which made things better. This course is not worth $69 in March. Besides the normal winter conditions of the course; the driving range was closed and our cart died on hole 17. The service was great, pace was fine and the greens and tee boxes were in good condition. Cart path only made things harder on this soggy and very hilly course. This is definately not your normal Charlotte course.

Rained most of the prior day so the course was soaked. Greens were excellent all things considered along with the tee boxes. All of the traps were mini ponds and there was a lot of standing water on the course. No rain covers on the carts for your clubs and the carts must be stored outside because they needed to be wiped down on the interior before we could sit in them. I'm really nit picking and giving a heads up to anyone think about playing here after it rains. Still enjoyed the round and this is still one of my favorite courses because of location and price, but stay away if there is rain.

New favorite course in Charlotte only made better by a great price on EZLinks. Fairways were in great condition, greens a little beat up but still good and the tee boxes showed a little wear and tear. The sand traps were in good shape and that is a real plus compared to other courses in Charlotte that I have played. If you have never played it I strongly recommend you do.

First time I have played here and I really enjoyed it. Tee box and fairways were in good condition. The greens are soft, fast and a little beat up but they are better then a lot of the courses on the Carolina Trail. Keep the ball in the fairway and you will have a good day. Mounds on the edge of the fairways will shoot any missed tee shots into the rough or woods and they are gone because both are thick. Only complaint is the pace of play. We had to wait on every tee and approach shot because the course was backed up. Longest round I have ever played and started at 1pm. They also have a good chicken salad sandwich and some "talent" on the beverage cart.
