Took Pops out for a round at #SkybrookGolfClub yes

Took Pops out for a round at #SkybrookGolfClub yesterday. He’s just getting back in the swing of things and lives 5 minutes from the course.
@SkybrookGolf ranks #5 on my @axioscharlotte Top 10 list of the best public golf courses around Charlotte. The club just had their Member-Member tournament last week and so the course is in prime shape. Dino and the maintenance crew have the greens rolling nicely!
A few minor things from my round - some tee boxes were chewed up or bare (e.g. back tee on No. 1), a few bunkers were not raked so I had to drop out of footprints, and they have laid sod around a few holes that were G.U.R. Oh and they lost part of the signature tree that guards the dogleg on No. 18. I worry that tree’s days are numbered.
I’ll be back Sunday for @TheGrintTourNC event. So look for more photos and vids from the course.

It was a treat to play the North Course at Carmel

It was a treat to play the North Course at Carmel Country Club for the first time this week. The course was immaculate, the greens 12+ on the stimp and the clubhouse is opulent. Just a spectacular venue and a fun round of golf with my host @foxrus14. Looking forward to a return visit so I can play the South Course.

Played the #9 public course in Charlotte from my recently released Top 10 List (see the link in my bio) last Sunday in @TheGrintTourNC event at Mooresville Golf Club. Great weather and fun competition made it a good round.
And though my score didn’t win any prizes, my shot on the Par 3 14th hole from 165 yards to 5 feet won me a Flight & Super Skin 🎯💰😛
Check my web site for the full review. The Bermuda greens are in great shape and the course is in prime condition. The construction along 6-7-8 is progressing and the aesthetic is much better than last year now that the buildings are up.

The weekend started with a fun round at @Caledonia

The weekend started with a fun round at @CaledoniaTrueBlueGolf with the one and only @TheSaltyGolfer and ended with me holding the McGuire Cup 🏆! 27 of us hacked our way around @Barefoot_Resort for the 35th annual Stouter Invitational. I’ve had the pleasure of attending the last 5 and this one was epic!
Trey Evans and his whole crew at Barefoot Resort were excellent hosts again for our team matches on the Love and Norman courses, our boisterous “Animal Round” at the Dye Club and the closing singles matches at the Fazio course. Barefoot Resort never disappoints and this year the courses were in about the best condition we’ve seen ‘em.
After going 1-1 in team matches, I ran away with my singles match to win 13-7 (1 pt per hole and +2 for the win) and help put my team over the top to victory.
Shoutout to @HreskiGolf and @BucaBelts for my colorful attire - which was clearly one of the keys to my winning performance 😬 🙌
Can’t wait to get back down to Myrtle Beach for more this summer!

My first round out at Bryan Park near Greensboro f

My first round out at Bryan Park near Greensboro for @TheGrintTourNC event last Sunday. Loved the Champions Course. It’s very scenic and challenging, yet fairly straightforward. The Champion Bermuda grass greens were in great shape and I putted really well on them (29 putts).
I shot my best round of the year so far (82) but lost out on the Eagle Flight trophy in a two hole playoff 😌. Really close to getting back to the winner’s circle.
I will come back and play this one again when the course greens up. It’s a cool layout (except for the goofy par 5 16th hole) and very affordable for a resort style course. They also have the Players Course with Bentgrass greens.
Now I’m looking forward to the next tour event, the 2-day major, The College Cup. That’s gonna be played at the Lonnie Poole course and Duke University Golf Club in Raleigh-Durham on April 23-24. Those are two more of NC’s finest courses I’ve yet to play. So I’ll get to cross ‘em off my list.

Played Rock Barn’s Jackson Course on Sunday and

Played Rock Barn’s Jackson Course on Sunday and was reminded what a great public track this is. They also have the Jones Course but you’ll need to find a member to play that one as it’s private. This place is the closest thing to a resort course within an hour of Charlotte - Grandover in Greensboro is about 30 min further.
At $65 for a weekend round with range balls and cart GPS (with green contour maps from GolfLogix) included, rounds here are worth the drive from the Queen City. Similar caliber courses in Charlotte will run $70-$80 on the weekends now.
The Jackson course plays short but the Bentgrass greens are tricky and fast. Four of the five par 3’s require carries over hazards, including the signature downhill 200 yard 6th hole.
The par 5 10th hole is probably my favorite (first photo) where you either risk the long carry over the pond to go for it in 2 or you strategically lay up and challenge as much of the dogleg over water as you can stomach.
The club sports a great practice area too, including the largest putting green you’ll find around here, good for perfecting your 100-foot putting stroke.
If you’ve never played Rock Barn, make the drive and try it out. You won’t be disappointed. Read my full review on my site (link in my bio).

If you don’t know by now, here’s another tip: Eagle Chase is a gem! The beautiful layout features elevation changes or water hazards on almost every hole and slick, sloped Zoysia grass greens. I love this course and it has gotten better every year.
This year the course has undergone a bunker renovation, with the front 9 done and the back 9 nearing completion. In addition to reshaping, laying concrete and filling with nice white fluffy sand, they’ve also resodded the grass around them (see pic #7). They’ve also extended the left green side bunker on the driveable par 4 #13 (see pic #8) in front of the green to stop shots from running onto the green but also from bouncing off the sloping fairway into the water.
Love this course, though I still wish I could pay extra to skip the 2nd hole (guaranteed double bogey for me). See the full review on my web site. Link in bio.

Finally made it out to Deer Brook in Shelby. What

Finally made it out to Deer Brook in Shelby. What a beautiful course! I loved the scenic layout (minus the power lines of course) and the challenging Bentgrass greens.
Even with no course knowledge or advice, I felt like the course played straightforward and fair. Not many blind shots. Generous landing areas off the tee except for a couple of holes.
The par 3’s are tricky though with hazards in play and difficult tiered, sloped greens. The closing 2 holes offer risk reward choices on your second shot, both with long carries over water.
See my site for the full review on this windy day (last Saturday). This course has a great chance to finally land in my Top 10 list for Charlotte courses, even though it’s a little further out (about an hour west of uptown). Look for the new list in 2 weeks!

Looking back at another memorable weekend at one of my favorite places… Kiawah Island Resort and the Ocean Course with @mgrinthawk77 @jokayplayer @thegrinttournc and Derek Marley for @TheGrintTour 2-Day Major tournament. Beautiful weather, good times with the boys and great competition with @panajoe81 and the whole @TheGrintTour gang from around the country.
If that wasn’t enough (and it never is!), I’ll be competing at @StreamsongResort with the Tour in June and then @TPCSawgrass in July. Bucket list golf course after bucket list golf course. And yet my first thought after playing them is… more, please!
@TheGrintTour delivers! You can join me on the @TheGrintTourNC this month as we kick things off at Rocky River on March 20th. We also have a 2-Day Major on April 23-24, The College Cup. We’ll be playing @DukeGolfClub and @LPGCNCState. That’ll be my first time at those two gems.
It’s shaping up to be a great year for tournament golf. Now, if I could just find a reliable golf swing 😂 Who wants to give me a lesson?

First round of the year started with a 🐦 and ended with 🇺🇸 Fun round with @brienblakely and crew out at Rocky River.
I even met Floyd Gragg, one of the area’s longest serving golf professionals and the former GM/pro here. Yep, that’s his name on the infamous rock in the middle of the 3rd fairway ⛰
Course was in good shape with the dormant Bermuda grass, especially the greens, which were rolling quick today. ⛳️
Look for Rocky River to stay in my Top 5 when I publish the new list next month!

Were you not entertained? 😛 My fun golf year also included memorable rounds with dear friends in Ocean Isle Beach, Aiken, SC (at Aiken Golf Club with @mr_buttondown), Barefoot Resort as Team Addington Captain for the annual Stouter Invitational, Mobile, AL for my high school reunion and a tournament at @KiawahResort to play my favorite course, The Ocean Course.
I nearly made an ace with Mardi Gras beads on at the Magnolia Grove short course on the @RTJGolfTrail. I birdied the 17th at the Ocean Course to cut a skin a buddy thought he’d won. Met @bryanbrosgolf with @mr_buttondown at @aikengolfclub. Watched the pros play at Quail Hollow in the @WellsFargoGolf tournament.
And in April I joined @mgrinthawk77 on @TheGrintTourNC at @grandoverresortandspa. I began helping Michael with social media marketing for the @TheGrintTour and played several events at @JeffersonLandingClub, @PinehurstResort, Sapona CC (where I won my only trophy of the year) and Oak Valley. I’m going to be playing on the Tour full time in 2022, starting with the Kiawah Island Open in February - where you guessed it, I’ll get to play my favorite course!
Can’t wait to make more memories in 2022!

My 2021 golf highlights included the thrill of my

My 2021 golf highlights included the thrill of my golf career: meeting @JackNicklaus! He even filmed a get well message for my Dad who was battling cancer at the time.
I also got to close down the bar @AmericanDunes with @KidRock and a squadron of fighter jet pilots as we toasted the grand opening of @LtColDanRooney’s @AmericanDunes Golf Club benefitting @FoldsofHonor. And yes, I won a friendly wager off @KidRock 💵😜
That trip and several others were part of my work with @TripCaddie as their Social Media and Web Marketing lead. We also hit @PinehurstResort and played The Cradle and Tobacco Road on Easter weekend. Then our big trip to @BigCedarLodge in October where we got to play @TigerWoods Payne’s Valley course. The Mountain Top short course was also spectacular. @GolfBigCedar was so awesome we are going back next October!
I’m looking forward to more bucket list trips in 2022 with @TripCaddie. First up is @BandonDunesGolf in March!

Finally got back in the winner’s circle yesterda

Finally got back in the winner’s circle yesterday! 🏆 I won the Eagle Flight in @TheGrintTourNC season opener at Sapona CC in Lexington. It’s been a challenging year for me personally and that made it difficult to perform at my best on the course, which made this win very satisfying. Made a ridiculous long downhill birdie putt from the fringe on my 17th hole to win by 1 shot.
This was my first time playing Sapona and I was impressed with this Ellis Maples design. The greens were immaculate, slick and very challenging. Not a long course but it requires strategic shot making. For a semi-private course that anyone can play, this is a top tier course. I’ll be adding it to my site this week, as it’s less than an hour from Charlotte, just north on I-85.
Great turnout for @TheGrintTour event too, with 56 players. Guess who's on top of the TheGrint Cup points race standings after 1 tournament? 😄 Gonna be a great season!

Played the Rock Hill Challenge out at @rockhillcou

Played the Rock Hill Challenge out at @rockhillcountryclub last Saturday with @TheGrintTourNC and managed a 2nd Place finish. Even a near ace, kick in birdie on 17 wasn’t enough to get that 🏆 tho. Had my troubles with the par 3 6th sloped green and the narrow, downhill, well guarded par 4 10th hole. On the bright side, I only had 29 putts (!) and made a clutch par save from the trees on 18. I’ll be back next month for the Tour Championship at Red Bridge for my last shot at glory this season.

I’ll be back at @RockHillCountryClub this Saturday for The Rock Hill Challenge tournament on @TheGrintTourNC with @mgrinthawk77. Love getting down to play this private club when I can. Built in 1934 with a front nine designed by famed architect A.W. Tillinghast, Rock Hill CC has an old school feel with classic features and challenges, including the tricky sloped and tiered greens - which are Mini-Verde Bermuda (2013).
If you haven’t tried TheGrint Tour yet, this is a great chance to check it out and play a private course gem. There are still spots available but let me know ASAP if you are interested in playing. I’ll connect you with the tour director and get you a deal for signing up.
@TheGrintTour is similar to the other amateur golf tours around the Carolinas *but* comes with the best golf app in the game @TheGrintGolf. And the tour is the most player friendly (esp. for newbies and rookies) of all the ones I’ve played.

Spent a wonderful 5th of July co-hosting and competing in @TheGrintTourNC Firecracker event yesterday with @mgrinthawk77 at @JeffersonLandingClub. This Larry Nelson designed gem in the mountains was in immaculate condition and a perfect venue for a tour event like The Firecracker. I had one bad hole and despite a highlight reel chip-in birdie at the last finished two strokes shy of the trophy. 😌 I’ll be back out at @TheGrintTourNC events in August and September. Went Stars and Striping it down at #TheAikenGolfClub yesterday with my fellow golf addict and good friend @Mr_Buttondown aka LaMyron Jenkins. What a classic gem this course is! Short and strategic with some of the most challenging sloped and undulating greens you’ll ever play. And our girl in the turn house is a fellow Gator 🐊. Couldn’t have had a better time kicking off Independence Day weekend. Even got to meet @georgebryaniv, one half of the famous @bryanbrosgolf duo. Big shout out to @sketchgolfofficial for making this custom ball marker for my big Stouter Invitational group event last weekend. Stuart has organized this trip for over 30 years and has been a close friend of mine for over 20. I got a caricature made from a picture of me and Stuart and @sketchgolfofficial was able to easily craft the marker from it. As you can see it turned out great and I got markers for our whole group (25 guys). I even got dozens of balls for the group and a framed print we all signed. It all turned out better than I could have imagined and the markers, the balls and the print will be cherished for years to come. If you need help getting something like this done for your group, shoot me a msg and I'll hook you up.

Now I’m looking forward to the next tour event, the 2-day major, The College Cup. That’s gonna be played at the Lonnie Poole course and Duke University Golf Club in Raleigh-Durham on April 23-24. Those are two more of NC’s finest courses I’ve yet to play. So I’ll get to cross ‘em off my list.

Played Rock Barn’s Jackson Course on Sunday and was reminded what a great public track this is. They also have the Jones Course but you’ll need to find a member to play that one as it’s private. This place is the closest thing to a resort course within an hour of Charlotte - Grandover in Greensboro is about 30 min further.
At $65 for a weekend round with range balls and cart GPS (with green contour maps from GolfLogix) included, rounds here are worth the drive from the Queen City. Similar caliber courses in Charlotte will run $70-$80 on the weekends now.
The Jackson course plays short but the Bentgrass greens are tricky and fast. Four of the five par 3’s require carries over hazards, including the signature downhill 200 yard 6th hole.
The par 5 10th hole is probably my favorite (first photo) where you either risk the long carry over the pond to go for it in 2 or you strategically lay up and challenge as much of the dogleg over water as you can stomach.
The club sports a great practice area too, including the largest putting green you’ll find around here, good for perfecting your 100-foot putting stroke.
If you’ve never played Rock Barn, make the drive and try it out. You won’t be disappointed. Read my full review on my site (link in my bio).

If you don’t know by now, here’s another tip: Eagle Chase is a gem! The beautiful layout features elevation changes or water hazards on almost every hole and slick, sloped Zoysia grass greens. I love this course and it has gotten better every year.
This year the course has undergone a bunker renovation, with the front 9 done and the back 9 nearing completion. In addition to reshaping, laying concrete and filling with nice white fluffy sand, they’ve also resodded the grass around them (see pic #7). They’ve also extended the left green side bunker on the driveable par 4 #13 (see pic #8) in front of the green to stop shots from running onto the green but also from bouncing off the sloping fairway into the water.
Love this course, though I still wish I could pay extra to skip the 2nd hole (guaranteed double bogey for me). See the full review on my web site. Link in bio.

Finally made it out to Deer Brook in Shelby. What a beautiful course! I loved the scenic layout (minus the power lines of course) and the challenging Bentgrass greens.
Even with no course knowledge or advice, I felt like the course played straightforward and fair. Not many blind shots. Generous landing areas off the tee except for a couple of holes.
The par 3’s are tricky though with hazards in play and difficult tiered, sloped greens. The closing 2 holes offer risk reward choices on your second shot, both with long carries over water.
See my site for the full review on this windy day (last Saturday). This course has a great chance to finally land in my Top 10 list for Charlotte courses, even though it’s a little further out (about an hour west of uptown). Look for the new list in 2 weeks!

Looking back at another memorable weekend at one of my favorite places… Kiawah Island Resort and the Ocean Course with @mgrinthawk77 @jokayplayer @thegrinttournc and Derek Marley for @TheGrintTour 2-Day Major tournament. Beautiful weather, good times with the boys and great competition with @panajoe81 and the whole @TheGrintTour gang from around the country.
If that wasn’t enough (and it never is!), I’ll be competing at @StreamsongResort with the Tour in June and then @TPCSawgrass in July. Bucket list golf course after bucket list golf course. And yet my first thought after playing them is… more, please!
@TheGrintTour delivers! You can join me on the @TheGrintTourNC this month as we kick things off at Rocky River on March 20th. We also have a 2-Day Major on April 23-24, The College Cup. We’ll be playing @DukeGolfClub and @LPGCNCState. That’ll be my first time at those two gems.
It’s shaping up to be a great year for tournament golf. Now, if I could just find a reliable golf swing 😂 Who wants to give me a lesson?

First round of the year started with a 🐦 and ended with 🇺🇸 Fun round with @brienblakely and crew out at Rocky River.
I even met Floyd Gragg, one of the area’s longest serving golf professionals and the former GM/pro here. Yep, that’s his name on the infamous rock in the middle of the 3rd fairway ⛰
Course was in good shape with the dormant Bermuda grass, especially the greens, which were rolling quick today. ⛳️
Look for Rocky River to stay in my Top 5 when I publish the new list next month!

Were you not entertained? 😛 My fun golf year also included memorable rounds with dear friends in Ocean Isle Beach, Aiken, SC (at Aiken Golf Club with @mr_buttondown), Barefoot Resort as Team Addington Captain for the annual Stouter Invitational, Mobile, AL for my high school reunion and a tournament at @KiawahResort to play my favorite course, The Ocean Course.
I nearly made an ace with Mardi Gras beads on at the Magnolia Grove short course on the @RTJGolfTrail. I birdied the 17th at the Ocean Course to cut a skin a buddy thought he’d won. Met @bryanbrosgolf with @mr_buttondown at @aikengolfclub. Watched the pros play at Quail Hollow in the @WellsFargoGolf tournament.
And in April I joined @mgrinthawk77 on @TheGrintTourNC at @grandoverresortandspa. I began helping Michael with social media marketing for the @TheGrintTour and played several events at @JeffersonLandingClub, @PinehurstResort, Sapona CC (where I won my only trophy of the year) and Oak Valley. I’m going to be playing on the Tour full time in 2022, starting with the Kiawah Island Open in February - where you guessed it, I’ll get to play my favorite course!
Can’t wait to make more memories in 2022!

My 2021 golf highlights included the thrill of my

My 2021 golf highlights included the thrill of my golf career: meeting @JackNicklaus! He even filmed a get well message for my Dad who was battling cancer at the time.
I also got to close down the bar @AmericanDunes with @KidRock and a squadron of fighter jet pilots as we toasted the grand opening of @LtColDanRooney’s @AmericanDunes Golf Club benefitting @FoldsofHonor. And yes, I won a friendly wager off @KidRock 💵😜
That trip and several others were part of my work with @TripCaddie as their Social Media and Web Marketing lead. We also hit @PinehurstResort and played The Cradle and Tobacco Road on Easter weekend. Then our big trip to @BigCedarLodge in October where we got to play @TigerWoods Payne’s Valley course. The Mountain Top short course was also spectacular. @GolfBigCedar was so awesome we are going back next October!
I’m looking forward to more bucket list trips in 2022 with @TripCaddie. First up is @BandonDunesGolf in March!

Finally got back in the winner’s circle yesterda

Finally got back in the winner’s circle yesterday! 🏆 I won the Eagle Flight in @TheGrintTourNC season opener at Sapona CC in Lexington. It’s been a challenging year for me personally and that made it difficult to perform at my best on the course, which made this win very satisfying. Made a ridiculous long downhill birdie putt from the fringe on my 17th hole to win by 1 shot.
This was my first time playing Sapona and I was impressed with this Ellis Maples design. The greens were immaculate, slick and very challenging. Not a long course but it requires strategic shot making. For a semi-private course that anyone can play, this is a top tier course. I’ll be adding it to my site this week, as it’s less than an hour from Charlotte, just north on I-85.
Great turnout for @TheGrintTour event too, with 56 players. Guess who's on top of the TheGrint Cup points race standings after 1 tournament? 😄 Gonna be a great season!

Played the Rock Hill Challenge out at @rockhillcou

Played the Rock Hill Challenge out at @rockhillcountryclub last Saturday with @TheGrintTourNC and managed a 2nd Place finish. Even a near ace, kick in birdie on 17 wasn’t enough to get that 🏆 tho. Had my troubles with the par 3 6th sloped green and the narrow, downhill, well guarded par 4 10th hole. On the bright side, I only had 29 putts (!) and made a clutch par save from the trees on 18. I’ll be back next month for the Tour Championship at Red Bridge for my last shot at glory this season.

I’ll be back at @RockHillCountryClub this Saturday for The Rock Hill Challenge tournament on @TheGrintTourNC with @mgrinthawk77. Love getting down to play this private club when I can. Built in 1934 with a front nine designed by famed architect A.W. Tillinghast, Rock Hill CC has an old school feel with classic features and challenges, including the tricky sloped and tiered greens - which are Mini-Verde Bermuda (2013).
If you haven’t tried TheGrint Tour yet, this is a great chance to check it out and play a private course gem. There are still spots available but let me know ASAP if you are interested in playing. I’ll connect you with the tour director and get you a deal for signing up.
@TheGrintTour is similar to the other amateur golf tours around the Carolinas *but* comes with the best golf app in the game @TheGrintGolf. And the tour is the most player friendly (esp. for newbies and rookies) of all the ones I’ve played.

Spent a wonderful 5th of July co-hosting and competing in @TheGrintTourNC Firecracker event yesterday with @mgrinthawk77 at @JeffersonLandingClub. This Larry Nelson designed gem in the mountains was in immaculate condition and a perfect venue for a tour event like The Firecracker. I had one bad hole and despite a highlight reel chip-in birdie at the last finished two strokes shy of the trophy. 😌 I’ll be back out at @TheGrintTourNC events in August and September. Short and strategic with some of the most challenging sloped and undulating greens you’ll ever play. And our girl in the turn house is a fellow Gator 🐊. Couldn’t have had a better time kicking off Independence Day weekend. Even got to meet @georgebryaniv, one half of the famous @bryanbrosgolf duo. Big shout out to @sketchgolfofficial for making this custom ball marker for my big Stouter Invitational group event last weekend. Stuart has organized this trip for over 30 years and has been a close friend of mine for over 20. I got a caricature made from a picture of me and Stuart and @sketchgolfofficial was able to easily craft the marker from it. As you can see it turned out great and I got markers for our whole group (25 guys). I even got dozens of balls for the group and a framed print we all signed. It all turned out better than I could have imagined and the markers, the balls and the print will be cherished for years to come. If you need help getting something like this done for your group, shoot me a msg and I'll hook you up.
