I returned to Tega Cay for the first time in many years. I was impressed.

#1, the greens were excellent throughout both the Carolina Pines and Grande View nines. The Bermuda grass was in great shape and rolled quick and true. Some of the best public access Bermuda greens in the Charlotte area.

#2, the layout is fun. Tons of elevation change and doglegs. Some short holes, both par 5’s and par 4’s. And several challenging but fair holes, with risk-reward decisions. The Carolina Pines nine definitely has an older, more casual feel to it. The Grande View is in a little better shape and has two challenging holes to bookend the nine.

The price is in line with the value but still steep. $62 for a weekday afternoon is $15 higher than you would have expected to pay a year or so ago.

We happened to play while Ron DeSantis was speaking at the clubhouse (by accident). We could hear him taking questions as we finished up on the last hole. Since we had no place to go, we played the Grande View nine a second time. 😛

Tega Cay also has the Cove nine hole course, which is the more casual nine. The driving range was mats only today and you are hitting off a cliff. So there’s no real feel at all for how far you’re hitting shots. It’s strictly for warming up and grooving your swing. The turnhouse is convenient and well stocked.

Overall, I felt like Tega Cay is right there in the conversation for a Top 10 Charlotte area course, though it’s probably just an honorable mention still.
