Far and away the best public course in the Charlotte area. The front nine is typical Donald Ross with small elevated greens surrounded by runoffs in all directions with deep bunkers. The Tom Jackson designed back 9 is much more open than the front 9 and has quite a bit more length. BEST GREENS IN CHARLOTTE! Put’s Ballantyne Resort to shame at 1/3 of the price!

Hmmmmm……no. Maybe the 10th best…Red Bridge, Eagle Chase, Verdict Ridge, Olde Sycamore, Edgewater, Springfield, Glen Oaks, Rocky River, Skybrook…I’m sure others would add many more before you get here. Nice course, indeed, not close to the best….

Doc you are way off base here. You must not be a fan of Donald Ross courses? Red Bridge is solid but I find it laughable that you would put Old Sycamore anywhere close to the same league.

Hm…again. Olde Sycamore is 18 hole Tom Jackson design, and either 9 at OS is better than the Tom Jackson 9 at Monroe CC. I love Donald Ross designs, and the front 9 at Monroe CC is fun, though really the green complexes are the main attraction, not so much the overall layout.

Sorry to jump in on an old post, but I had to comment…. Old Sycamore is not nearly as good a course as Monroe. Not to mention the fact that Monroe has about 1/3 the maintenance staff and is still in better shape than I’ve ever seen Old Sycamore. Also considering the price, I’d play Monroe over OS any day!
