I have played Renaissance in the past and it was not a bad experience, however this outing was one where I was embarrassed to have taken out of town guests to a course representing Charlotte. I never received any pre warning when I booked the tee time on the phone, nor when I checked in and paid for my round about heavy equipment that was actively working tearing up tee boxes, requirements to tee off from the rough, and the greens with mange, fungus or algae death that has left them with 1/3 to 1/2 of the grass still on them.

To add insult to injury, our 4-some was charged full rate for county residents and out of town rates for our guests!

The final kick in the pants was a God-awful smell on the back 9 around a swampy par 3 that words cannot describe.

  • As a follow up, I received an email from the Marketing Director of this course basically accusing me of being a liar about the date and rate, and sent me a picture of the construction sign on the course and said it was a clear indication of conditions. No apology for the course conditions nor acknowledgement that at no time was out group informed of the horrid course conditions. On review of the date/time – our group played the course the afternoon of 8/20, and we were all charged the full rate. The course never verbally told us it was under construction, that the tee boxes were not all there and playable, and they had lost many of their greens to net out for overall poor conditions and some of the worst customer service I have ever received, and by far the worst from any golf course.

FYI - Tega did a deep verticut earlier this week and didn’t have it mentioned on their website. Rode down there today to get a road round in while Skybrook recovers from aerating only to be completely disappointed. Got a rain check at the turn…give it a couple weeks...
