As always the layout and fairways are great to play and in good shape. They need to switch out the greens as most everyone else has because the greens are very spotty. In addition to the greens being an issue I would recommend changing out the sand. They currently have, I think, a clay based sand that is rock hard after any rain. Finally, the new clubhouse location will be perfect to grab a dog and a beer on the turn because currently there is no chance for food throughout the round.
The spotty greens are on them. This summer has been super mild and bent grass should not have any problems staying healthy. There are plenty of public courses where the bent grass greens look great right now, Deerbrook in Shleby is a perfect example. Emerald Lake is having problems with their greens due to poor maintenance not the type of grass. These new bermuda greens that are being put in are great when it is super hot in the summer but in reality the only time that should be an issue here is late June to around mid-August. Bent grass is far superior for play year round and the cost to put these bermuda greens in and get the equipment needed to maintain them, as well as overseeding in the winter (which most courses around here do not do), far outweighs the cost to maintain Bent greens for that short period in the summer. Sorry for the rant, I just don’t like this new trend and I think it is unnecessary.
