Eagle Chase was in great shape. The greens were good and consistent, not blazing fast like they sometimes can be, though. The restoration of the bunkers from 2 years ago has now really settled in and they now add to the beauty and aesthetics of the layout with the bright white sand contrasting the rolling green hills.

The greenside bunker on No. 13 stands out, as it now guards the approach shot even more closely and prevents big hitters from bouncing a ball up onto the green from the teebox. The 11th-12th-13th hole stretch is one of my favorite in all of Charlotte public golf.

Despite hitting the fairway, just missing the green and tapping in for a bogey, I still hate the 2nd hole. 😀

The weekday morning rate online was only $48 and that qualifies as a good deal around Charlotte for this quality of course.

  • #13 is one where I’m on a mission every time I play there. Consistency needs to get to the point, though, where I can reliably hit the right shot to get it there.

A straight shot won’t do because of the water and the sand. So the only one that would work is a nice fade into the grade that feeds it into the green. I got close on a lucky shot, but it’s a super tight window to fit it in. Not the sort of thing somebody would want to do on a serious attempt at scoring, though. Hah!

Hah… Fade into the Grade, that Feeds into the Green… Sounds like something that should be in a 1960s musical….

Lots of clubs around town will do short game clinics (1-3 hours on one day) that are fairly inexpensive ($30-$100). Stonebridge is one course that offers this. I've taken the one with Fred Bond and got my money's worth out of it. These types of clinics are usually a good...
