Golf Vacations in the Carolinas
North and South Carolina represent the de facto capital of the golf vacation world, with the largest number and widest variety of golf resorts in the country. Myrtle Beach alone has over 100 courses along its "Grand Strand."
There are great deals to be had for golf lovers of all skill and budget levels. Check out the Carolina Golf Travel Guide to plan your next trip.If you start in Charlotte, head east to Pinehurst and the Sandhills area first. If money's no obstacle, stay and play at the Pinehurst Resort where you can tackle the famed #2 course.
Head further east to the North Carolina coast and you will hit the Outer Banks with its 6 championship courses. Then start winding your way down the Atlantic coastline into South Carolina and you'll arrive at the north end of the Grand Strand. You won't go more than a few miles between courses and you'll find several resorts with 3 or 4 courses on the same property. A true golfer's dream.
More golf havens await further south in Charleston, starting on the Isle of Palms at the Wild Dunes Resort then on the other side of the historic city on Kiawah Island. Last but not least is the home of island golf, Hilton Head.
Pinehurst - Sandhills
I've played Talamore, Mid South, Legacy and Tobacco Road. I've also played Tot Hill Farm, but to me that doesn't count since it is further away from the resort. Tobacco Road is the most unique course I've ever played and is one of those you'll love or hate, but try it out at least once!
