Springfield in its normal condition (Good shape). Fairways were good. Ruff not to ruff. Greens were fast and putts were breaking. Greens have a light top dressing of sand at the moment but putts are still rolling smooth. Guy at the counter, noticing that I am a Steeler fan, told me that Donnie Shell plays the course pretty often. I might have to visit this place more often, might bump into him one day.

Emerald Lake seems to have recovered from their green issues. Fairways good, greens good and slightly fast, sand traps good. Emerald Lake is back in its normal condition that I have been accustomed to. They are still working out of trailers, didn't notice any construction to rebuild club house. A couple of busted golf ball washers on course about the time I was really needing one (minor things I know). Good course in good condition.

This course is in decent shape. Fairways were ok, not like Glen Oaks last week, but they were in good shape, nothing to complain about. Greens were in good shape as far as having grass on them, but they sure was putting slow. The funny thing about it is - the greens looked like they would be fast but that just wasnít the case. Left many putts short today. They screwed up the fringe on a lot of their greens leaving no grass in many spots on many greens. Doesnít affect the game much unless you miss the green on your approach and you like to putt onto the green instead of chip. Sand traps were in good shape. After reading posts here on the B-man for the last couple of years, this course was in better condition than what I was expecting. Good course in good shape.

For those of you who post ratings on this site especially those of you who give away stars liberally. I am making it mandatory for you to make a road trip up to Glen Oaks and see what a 5 star public golf course looks like. WOW, this was without a doubt the best public course that I have golfed on from the B-man list. The fairways were perfect, the greens were perfect, and the sand traps were perfect. As far as the condition of the course goes everything was great and picture perfect looking golf holes. Even the woods were cleaned out making the balls easy to find. (not mine but my playing partner hit one in there ( : ) $34 for a round of golf, you canít beat that with a stick. This is a public golf course with private golf course quality. Only bad things to report is that their club house burnt down and they are working out of a trailer. They could also use some more water jugs on the course.

Played Verdict Ridge for the first time. This is a descent course. The fairway seem to be about the same as what everyone is reporting on the other courses; starting to come in but not quite all the way there yet. The greens were in great shape as far as grass goes but they do have a top dressing of sand on them at the moment. Sand traps had plenty of sand. Thereís not a lot of variety in the fairways on this course. Most of the fairways had a sloping left to right slant to them. Basically hit the ball to the hill on the left and let the hill turn the ball back down to the center of the fairwayóover and over and over and over x 10. Nice looking club house and friendly staff. They let us on for $39 instead of the normal rate of $49, which was great. $39 dollars for a weekday rate is a fair price for this course. If I would have paid $49 I probably been a little more disappointed in this course. I probably wonít be back to this course for a while due to the travel time to get there for me. Overall a good course in good condition.

Stonebridge has improved since the last rating. The greens are on the fast side, they still show signs of being punched but it is not effecting the roll of the ball. The sand traps are in great shape. The tee boxes showing signs of use. The fairways are still just a touch on the thin side (but not too bad). Hopefully a little warm weather will thicken them up some more. Brand new golf carts with nice canopy for clubs during weather. This course is good to go and is only going to get better with a little more time.

Lancaster was is great shape for the current time of year. Greens and fairways is good shape, and sand traps had plenty of sand. Only noticed one thing to mention as a negative. On the back side of the island green looking par 3, they have patched in some new grass several months ago. Its close to smooth but not there yet. Overall though, the course is great.

Emerald Lake has big time green issues. They dont have a perfect green on the course at the moment. They have sprayed to kill weeds on the greens leaving grassless holes in the green. Its like putting on soft greens where nobody ever repairs their divot. A couple of greens are really bad and the rest just make you shake your head. Their greens are burmuda and burmuda is dormant. That means nothing going to change here till the weather warms up. Stay clear till spring.

Nothing special about this place. A couple of things that I like was that there was alot of open fairways that you could let loose with the driver. The greens were in great shape and rolled smooth, medium speeds. The pace of play was good, actually was done in less than 4 hrs. Bad things were the tee boxes were in bad shape. The fairways were thin. Noticed some spots where they patched in some grass too. The sandtraps looked nice but the hard clay bottom was only about an inch below the surface. Overall it an all-right course. There a dime a dozen. I could see if yo live close playing here but its not worth the travel otherwise.

Stonebridge is in its normal condition, for those of you that play here. The greens are not as nice looking (due to the cooler weather) but the ball is still rolling good. They just put brand new white soft sand in all the traps, therefore the traps are in perfect shape. They also had ground crew out keeping the fairways and greens clear of leaves. Still a good course to be playing this time of year.

Red Bridge is in good shape still. Only a few complaints today. Tee boxes needed to be moved to a new location, most boxes were really divoted up. There were some thin fairways. Also some of the fairways were really hard. I got robbed a few times from balls hitting in the short grass on the fairway and taking wild bounces left or right. I also got some longer distance off the box on the flatter fairways but I would gladly given up the extra yardage to avoid the shots I got robbed on. Greens and sandtraps were in good condition.

What is the deal? Why are all the great golf courses the ones that require driving close to an hour to get there? Fox Den, Edgewater, Tillery Tradition, and now Lancaster and there all about an hour travel time to get there. Lancaster was in great condition today. Greens were in perfect condition. Guy at the club house told us about a couple of greens on the hard side but I guess with the wet weather we didnít notice it. Iím not sure about the number scale that I see people use so I just have to describe it in my own way and that is the greens were between a medium and fast speed. Fairways were great. A couple of sand traps had water in them but it had rained prior to us playing. I didnít get in the sand today but you could tell by looking at them the sand traps would be good on a dry day. Absolutely nothing bad to say about this course. Another great course in great condition.

This course is in its normal condition with the exception of the greens. I would have to say the greens are as bad as Iíve ever seen them at Emerald Lake. I donít mean to scare anybody, they are still in ok shape to play on, itís just that they have always been in pretty good shape. There is still a thin layer of sand on the greens. Some of the greens have dead spots all over them a little bigger than your golf, where they sprayed to kill a weed or something. They also had a good bit of ball scars. Sand traps were in great shape.

This course is in great condition and looks great too. I honestly canít think of anything bad to say about this course. The only thing I can complain about is the golf cart, it didnít like to run very well, even once it was warmed up. Their carts look fairly new too, maybe we just got a lemon today. The top speed on the cart was horrible also, sometimes I felt like I could walk faster. Iíve noticed on courses that have steep hills to climb that the carts donít usually have a good speed. I assume itís because of the way they have to gear them to climb the hills. The greens have a nice medium speed to them. Some of the greens were very tricky, especially the longer the putt got. There were times when I didnít see a lot of break in a putt and then found out I was wrong. Then there would be times when the putt would be fairly straight. I got to the point where putting felt like a shot in the dark. I think my problem hinged around that Iím not use to medium speed greens being able to break as much as some of these greens. Anyway this is a nice course.

Stonebridge is in its normal condition (good shape). Only one bad thing to report (which is not their fault), they just punched their greens and put a layer of sand down. They are playable but they do bounce some. I would give it a few weeks before going out there.

EAGLE CHASE IS CLOSED FOR THE YEAR. Well not officially, there is a guy out there that will still take your money and let you get a golf cart. This is the worst golf course I think I ever played on. This golf course make the worst Carolina Trail course look like Pebble Beach. I went out there because somebody had reported it was a good wet weather course because it drained well. LIAR! I needed a canoe to get to #10 tee box. 90% of the sand traps were full of water. I actually lost a ball in a sand trap because the water was too deep to see it. The other 10% hardly had any sand in them. The greens were terrible. I could count the number of greens in okay to good condition on one hand. The fairways were the only thing is decent condition but because of the wet weather the farmer wasnít able to bail the mowed grass. I would give them at least a couple of days for them to get it bailed up and hauled off the course. Cart paths are all rooted up, I hope you like hearing your clubs beat off each other because that noise donít stop until the cart does. Did I mention the greens were horrible, well its worth mentioning again. Yeah big patches of grassless areas, nothing but dark dirt and white sand. They were also bumpy (go figure) Itís going to take a ton of good reviews by a bunch of different people before I even think about this course again. If you want to see for yourself be sure to save your receipt you can deduct it from your taxes as charity. I gave it one star for nice parking lot, plenty of empty spaces too.

Reconfirming what the last person said. Yes the greens are very hard. Everything is is good shape. I am going to knock 1 star off for the hard greens. One last thing $49 to play on a weekday. Yeah the course looks great but the price will make it a once in a blue moon for me instead of being in the rotation.

This place is in good shape still. Only a couple of things to report. They have put down a layer of sand all over the greens giving the greens a whiteish color to it. Kind of like dew in the morning or something. The greens seem to be a touch slower with a little less break on the ball. The ball still rolls smooth but on occasion you do have to go tamp down some small clumps of sand that are on your line. Maybe some of you golf experts might know how long for the sand to soak in. By no means did it make the round less enjoyable though. Most of the tee boxes were good shape. Noticed a couple of thin fairways but not bad. Sand traps were good.

Played Edgewater for the first time. This is a good course in good condition. I get the feeling it was going to be a retirement village (like Carolina Lakes) but it never got going. You pass by a guard shack (unmanned) and drive a mile or two to get to the course and thatís all thatís there, a golf course, no houses or anything. This course has a little bit of everything on it. Flat straight fairways, uphill tee shot, downhill tee shots, slight doglegs, hard doglegs, some water hole, mostly just sand trap hazards though. Which reminds me, the name Edgewater is deceiving, this course doesnít have any more water hazards on it then any of course you would play on. I only recall being able to see the big lake from 2 holes on the whole course and the lake is not in play by any means. I guess it is called Edgewater because there is a lake close by. You can see where the greens have been punched not too long ago but the ball is rolling mostly smooth (a couple of bumps left) Greens have a nice medium speed. Sand traps are not too bad but could use a touch more sand. The par 3ís are long. Shortest one was 180 yards and the longest was 230 yards from the middle tees. Some of the holes on the course had forced carries off the box also. Iím a weekday golfer so I canít vouch for the weekends, but we had the whole course to ourselves it seemed. No houses, no traffic, hardly seen any other golfers. Just you and the golf course, nothing else. 50 minute drive from Indian Trail traveling down 200 to get there. Which was also nice, no traffic to drive through to get there.

Played Regent Park for the first time. I thought it was a pretty good course. The tee boxes were in good condition. The fairways were good shape . (not thin) The greens rolled nice and had a nice medium speed to it. (not too fast, not too slow). The greens were also nice and soft. I was leaving some pretty big divots, bigger than any other course Iíve been on this year. Now for the negatives. Quite a few greens had grassless rough patches around the outer edge of the green. It doesnít affect the game that much unless you land your ball on the area. (which would be rare) Otherwise your usually chipping the ball over that area anyway. The greens (because they are soft) had ball marks. Itís past time for them to replace their golf carts. The girl working the counter I donít think knew a thing about golf. Then the worst one of all, the price. $49 to play 18 with a tee time close to noon or a week day! Thatís enough that I will not be back any time soon.

I thought I would give the Divide a chance despite the many poor reviews this place gets. The reviews were right. The greens are slow and bumpy. You cant judge speed of putts because you dont know how many times the ball is going to hop. The fairways are a little thin. I did like the layout of the course. There was a couple of narrow fairways but most of the time you could just let the driver rip. This course is still below average compared to the many other courses there are to choose from.

Played Larkhaven yesterday. This is the best public golf course in Charlotte right now. The rye grass is just as lush and green as can be. The course is always busy for that reason. Got an 11:16 tee time on a Tuesday and was lucky to get that. Happen to be golfing with a guy who was a member at a private club and he said most of that courseís member were golfing at Larkhaven for the time being. The tee boxes show some wear (obviously) the fairways are great and the greens are slow (because it got a full head of nice green grass) but not bad slow. Larkhaven doesnít have a problem with you driving carts on the fairway but have lots of signs posted about not driving in the ruff. (Uh ok). Any way we played a round in 4 hours, we figured that is faster than you can get on a weekend there, because all of the bad golfers are out on weekends. My dad said it was like golfing in a picture, which I agree, after golfing on dormant golf courses all winter, it was fantastic. Too bad when the weather heats up real good all that rye grass is going to burn up, Larkhaven will probably go back to its normal self. (which I always felt was not as good as most other public golf courses) For now, Good Job Larkhaven!!

This course is in good shape right now. This is a good course to play when the weather has been wet. The whole course just seems to drain well. I have nothing bad to say about this course really except for a couple of personal issues. The greens are hard (especially the front 9) and the greens are fast (faster then most). If this stuff doesnt bother you consider giving this course a try, especially just after wet weather. Your day will be less soggy and you can probably avoid a cart path only day that you would have a another golf course.

This golf course is in pretty good shape. Even though my score didnít reflect it, it is one of the easier golf courses in the area. I got a couple complaints though. The sand traps are way low on sand. It rained two days ago and most of the sand traps are still full of water. The greens are hard as a rock. They had a number of their ground workers out on the course doing I donít know what. I only caught one of the actually working once. Just about every hole on the front 9 they was wanting to drive down the hole we were playing. (They were just driving around and never seen them working). It was disturbing.

Stonebridge was in pretty good shape today. The tee boxes are pretty scarred up but thatís not too big of a deal to me. I guess they poked holes in the greens about 3 weeks ago then they put a coat of sand on them and rolled them. Now the greens are a little on the fast side and the ball rolls smooth. You can actually see a sand splash when you fly one into the greens.

I have to agree with the last few posts about this course. The course is in great shape and it is very difficult. I think the reason that the greens are in great shape is because itís an accomplishment to be on the green in regulation. Lots of people chipping up to the green due to the difficulty of the course. I know Iím not a great golfer but I didnít need to use my divot repair tool the whole round. One thing about the course that I personally didnít like was that the course has five par 5's and five par 3's. I enjoy normal amount of par 4's on a course but like I said this was just a personal issue. Another thing I didnít like was there was many holes that require about a 180 yd tee shot to carry a hazard and reach the fairway or green, and thats if you hit straight shots. Someone like me who struggles with slices a lot gets killed with the loss of distance and the fact that the hazard is further to carry if you donít take the short way across. This course is for the confident golfer.

This course is in good shape. Fairways and tee boxes are good. The greens are pretty good also, with the exception of #15 which had a few bare sandy spots on it. Their sand traps could use some attention. Some of them are a little light on sand but they have an abundance of hard red clay just under the surface. I noticed other sand traps had small rocks in them (just a touch smaller than a penny). They have a lot of nice soft sand in a pile in the parking lot that has been sitting there for I donít know how long. Over all a pretty good course for the price and the best deal on range balls you will find anywhere.

This is a nice course. At the moment it needs some work since it has been raining for the past 6 days. Some of the sand traps have standing water, some of them had dirt in them from water running into them, some of them had had trenches in them from water running through them and the rest just needed to be fluffed back up. The greens have a few divot markss on them but nothing to bad, just enough to be worth mentioning. These greens are fast compared to most of the public courses Ive been playing on. The course is little hilly on a few holes, and has yardage marked on cart paths, fairway blocks and a few sprinklers. I think they had water jugs on every other hole. Give them a couple days to get their sandtraps worked on and this course will be good again. Nice Course.

This is a nice course aobut a 50 minute drive for me from Indian Trail. They are currently reseeding their greens and therefore have a $25 green fee until Oct. 1. This is not a flat course by any means but still not to bad. I only recall 3 extream holes. One being a steep up hill tee shot. The other two were steep down hill shots. One was about a 185yd. par 3. I never had more hang time on a golf shot in my life (drives included) I half expected my ball to explode into flames when it hit the green. Yardage is marked on cart paths, sprinkler heads and fairway blocks. Sand traps are in great condition and have plenty of nice soft sand. The downside was the greens. Some are sandy, some are furry, and some are a combination of both. It was very hard to find in consistancy with putting. It added a few strokes to the score card for sure. This is a great looking golf course and when they get the greens finished--look out. Considering the greens and the fact that I only had to pay $25, I didnt feel like I got ripped off at all. NICE COURSE!
