Course is usually junk and overpriced. When you see a good post about this course I suspect it is an employee trying to sucker some rounds of golf. Go to Emerald Lake, Old Sycamore or Charlotte...

  • 1/25/12, Eagle Chase Golf Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Best course I know of after heavy rain. Greens are not smooth - bumpy, kind of like Torrey Pines in the 2008 Open - well, maybe that's a bit over the top. Anyway, pace was good after getting beyond a walking 2-some with no clue. Fairways good for this time of year. Cart paths still miserable. Still, overall, love the course.
  • 1/22/12, Emerald Lake Golf Club, Review by ISlayMySelf - Rained most of the prior day so the course was soaked. Greens were excellent all things considered along with the tee boxes. All of the traps were mini ponds and there was a lot of standing water on the course. No rain covers on the carts for your clubs and the carts must be stored outside because they needed to be wiped down on the interior before we could sit in them. I'm really nit picking and giving a heads up to anyone think about playing here after it rains. Still enjoyed the round and this is still one of my favorite courses because of location and price, but stay away if there is rain.
  • 1/7/12, The Tradition Golf Club, Review by metallikviper - First time playing this course and I wasn't disappointed. Course seemed to be in good shape for this time of the year. Tee Boxes and greens were in excellent shape. Fairways are basically dormant for this time of the year, which makes finding the ball a bit difficult. Roughs chewed up a few of our balls today. Only gripe about the course were the bunkers. Atleast 5-7 of the bunkers had stagnant water. Very few bunker had real sand. Also, did not appreciate the 5 hr pace.
  • 1/7/12, Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation, Review by DrSchteeve - Except for the slow play, everything was good.
  • 1/6/12, Larkhaven Golf Club, Review by phatdba - This winter Larkhaven has by far the best fairways, and some of the best greens. While most fairways are now brown and thin, theirs are somehow very green and lush. On a beautiful day with a morning frost delay and good rates, it was understandably crowded and backed up, our 12:58 group didn't tee off till 1:30 and we were on the 17th when it got too dark to see (turns out I play better when I can't see!). Great variety of holes on the layout. My only complaint is that overscheduling seems to be chronic - I hadn't played there for several years because of that. B-Man's Golf, IMO, is the best local guide to Charlotte golf, and I have enjoyed your reviews for several years, so thank you! Time to give back, so I finally registered and this is my first review.
  • 1/2/12, Monroe Country Club, Review by izzyf150 - This course is in good shape right now. This is a good course to play when the weather has been wet. The whole course just seems to drain well. I have nothing bad to say about this course really except for a couple of personal issues. The greens are hard (especially the front 9) and the greens are fast (faster then most). If this stuff doesnt bother you consider giving this course a try, especially just after wet weather. Your day will be less soggy and you can probably avoid a cart path only day that you would have a another golf course.
  • 12/28/11, Springfield Golf Club, Review by wnb5th - had lots of rain yesterday so it was soft and cart path only but course was still in pretty good shape. lots of dead, wet bermuda but greens still rolled good, bunkers in very good shape, overall not bad for this time of year. I am not a big fan of this course but there isnt any reason that i wouldnt recommend it to someone to play.
  • 12/20/11, Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation, Review by outliar - I don't like "cons" and therefore want to call these guys out! Advertisement says "$185 for 10 rounds, 10 range tokens and 10 lessons....a value of over $1800 bucks!" BS- Add $230 more dollars to play (mandatory cart fee); the "lesson" is 5-10 minutes. What you end of getting is 10 rounds + a small bucket of range balls for $41.50 + tax.
  • 12/10/11, Birkdale Golf Club, Review by ncdentist - I've never had a bad experience at this club. Wonderfully designed and well maintained course, friendly staff and members. Just a great value!
  • 12/1/11, Waterford Golf Club, Review by izzyf150 - This golf course is in pretty good shape. Even though my score didn’t reflect it, it is one of the easier golf courses in the area. I got a couple complaints though. The sand traps are way low on sand. It rained two days ago and most of the sand traps are still full of water. The greens are hard as a rock. They had a number of their ground workers out on the course doing I don’t know what. I only caught one of the actually working once. Just about every hole on the front 9 they was wanting to drive down the hole we were playing. (They were just driving around and never seen them working). It was disturbing.
  • 11/25/11, Tega Cay Golf Club, Review by metallikviper - Course is in decent shape considering the time of the year. Fairways definitely look worn and the tee boxes had a bunch of bare spots and both could use some repair. Roughs were cut a bit high and its easy to lose balls especially since they are all dried out. Greens however were in great shape. Only drawback was that they were cut short and putting was very fast. Overall I would rate it a B+ and would recommend.
  • 11/24/11, Regent Park Golf Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Thanksgiving - was going to be a shotgun, but with literally <10 people playing, told to just go off the 1st. Playing single, catch a tractor blowing leaves on second green. Mind you - blowing leaves, NOT setting pins. Wait 5 minutes. 3rd green - same. 4th - same...you get the picture. The guy clearly saw me waiting, never pulled to the side to let me through. 9th green, he's at the back, I hit to the front, my ball about 15 feet from the pin. By the time I get up to the green, my ball is nowhere to be found! When I asked in the pro shop who has the right of way - a leaf blower or a golfer - was told it was the leaf blower. Won't be back for a while.
  • 11/21/11, Waterford Golf Club, Review by metallikviper - Course is in good shape. The over-seeding on the tee boxes have helped as they were in dire need of repair. Fairway are showing signs of fall wear, but not too bad. I really like the new Mini-Verde greens as they don't mark up easy. But they are also very hard and you're lucky to stop any balls. Putting was really hard as the greens were cut down to almost nothing. It took us a good 9 holes to adjust to the speed. For the most part it felt like putting on glass. Pace of play wasn't too bad.
  • 11/7/11, Charlotte National Golf Club, Review by harrissc - I've always enjoyed this layout and the course is in pretty good shape right now. The tees should be mowed as they are a bit like rough but the fairways are pretty nice and the greens roll true. There are a few greens with spots but the putts really roll out. The one caution I will give is to stay away from this course on Mondays. We were playing directly behind the owner who apparently sets up a skins match every Monday for a lot of his friends. He was playing in a 5-some and refused to let us through so it was close to a 5 hour round. Good course but stay away on Mondays unless you want to be frustrated. If I were a golf course owner I would certainly pay more attention to the guests as opposed to my friends.
  • 11/6/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by Orion - Fantastic course, probably one of my best rounds too. Yes, the fairways are thin and it can be trouble if you're wayward, but you are rewarded if you keep it fairly close to the fairway. Only a couple gripes...leaves everywhere, I lost one and nearly lost another just because of all the leaves...it's fall, so I can't fault the course...but all the same. It's a little costly too, 49$ seems a bit much for an afternoon tee time, but it is what it is. You get some good bang for your buck though, some very scenic shots and it is very very quiet. Definitely one of the courses you should play.
  • 10/26/11, Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club, Review by ctwheels - The course was in good shape for this time of year as the fairways are starting to go dormant. The greens were very fast, they looked liked they had been punched recently, but they still rolled smoothly. I had a free pass from points collected on GolfNow so nay free round is enjoyable. Pace od play was good 4 hours. This was the 3rd time I played this course and I forgot I how hard the last 4 holes are. Frankly, I do not care for any of the last 4 holes. All the fairways are crowned and two of greens are blind. In reality the terrain is too rugged and is not suited for a golf hole. The only other knock on this scenic beauty is the 3 out of 4 par 3's from the blue tees are all the same length long 195 yards. I prefer more of variety. Therefore I typically play the whites on only the par 3's thus giving me 7 iron on one, 9, 6, and 5. I do not like hitting a hybrid on almost every par 3. One last note with the expansion of route 16 to 4 lanes and completion of I485 - it is short 20 minutes from Charlotte now.
  • 10/25/11, Regent Park Golf Club, Review by piversen - group of 9 canadians teed off early morning...large range of abilities...liked by all. some rough patches on greens...well framed....interesting layout....felt wide open for a residential course. great value for the money....will return
  • 10/24/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by jooliver - Perfect. If I want to be picky, SOME of the fairways are thin. Otherwise, perfect. Played the course 4 times this year from late March to now and the greens were awesome each time. They punched the greens 4 weeks ago and we played about 7 days after and they offered us a reduced rate of $25 for the trouble. No trouble, greens were still great. Great staff
  • 10/24/11, Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation, Review by izzyf150 - Ive played this golf course quite a few times this year. It has always been in great shape. Guess what? It still is. Thats why it remains my favorite I guess. Nothing negative to say about this course.
  • 10/24/11, The Divide Golf Club, Review by YoMama111 - Played the Divide this morning, the course was in good shape, the greens were much better than all of the reviews I had been reading lately, so I didn't really see any of the issues that people had been talking about. A few did have some minor issues, but that was only 2 of them. Other than that, the course was in good shape. That is all for now.
  • 10/23/11, Emerald Lake Golf Club, Review by HateSlowPlay - Greens were pretty good considering some of the others I have seen lately. They weren't the best condition I've seen them in but still rolling pretty true. Fairways and tee boxes were ok as well. Nothing to complain about there. The only gripe I have with Emerald Lakes, as always, is that they charge $6 for a small handfull of range balls. Most of which are lacking dimples. I also noticed a lot of divots on the course and when I reached for my sand bottle on my cart, both were completely empty. Not doing themselves any favors there!!!
  • 10/23/11, Fox Den Country Club, Review by mbspilla - First time Fox Den and it was a treat. Paid $36 for a Sunday morning round. Tee time was at 9am and no one was in front of us. Matter of fact there were probably only 5 or 6 cars in the parking lot. Overall the course was in great condition, the greens were rolling well, and the rough was moderate. One knock is people need to repair their ball marks, I probably repaired three or four on every hole. Love the layout it is has a good mix of elevation change that give you a mountain course feel and the back 9 has more of a coastal layout. Beer is cheap, paid $5 for 2 beers. I'll definitely be back and hopefully will have a similar experience.
  • 10/22/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Fairways very thin, otherwise conditions great.
  • 10/22/11, Charlotte National Golf Club, Review by Matt - Everything was above average and made for a great day of golf. Excellent value! Greens were slightly marked up; however, it isn' the course's fault. People need to fix their ballmarks! All in all, it is definately worth playing if you are looking for a relatively inexpensive round.
  • 10/22/11, Tega Cay Golf Club, Review by Orion - I'm not a fan of leaving negative feedback on anything, but I was really frustrated by the end of this round. Let me start off by saying the COURSE is beautiful and well maintained; my problem is with the administration. We had three people with us and a fourth was placed with us (standard practice, no problem there). We started at 12:20 and but did not finish until nearly 5:30. The pace was so slow, we had to wait almost 5 minutes before teeing off on each hole. We ended up having three (maybe even four, not sure) groups on hole 16. When we started we were talking with the starter and the marshall was right there, in the whole round we only saw him one other time, and that was at the 4th hole. We would have liked to see him again towards the end to pick up the pace a bit. I'll end this with the same disclaimer as before, I've only been playing for a year, so maybe this is standard for a beautiful fall day, but it was very different for me. Again, the course was in excellent condition, but maybe they were just a bit too ambitious with the booking. One last note, this is a TOUGH course (probably contributing to the pace). Keep this in mind if you are relatively new, you may want to tee up further than normal.
  • 10/17/11, Stonebridge Golf Club, Review by izzyf150 - Stonebridge was in pretty good shape today. The tee boxes are pretty scarred up but that’s not too big of a deal to me. I guess they poked holes in the greens about 3 weeks ago then they put a coat of sand on them and rolled them. Now the greens are a little on the fast side and the ball rolls smooth. You can actually see a sand splash when you fly one into the greens.
  • 10/15/11, Springfield Golf Club, Review by Matt - Everything greened up nicely, but there were some sucker pin placements today. 7 or 8 were at or within a foot of the peak of two converging slopes and another 5 or 6 were on side slopes. At one point it was like putt-putt. My dad missed a 4 foot uphill putt that rolled about a inch past the hole before proceeding to roll back to almost an identical location of where it was before the shot. :) All in all a great course in great shape.
  • 10/10/11, The Divide Golf Club, Review by stonecold - greens were covered in sand with no aeration also not alot of grass on the greens it was like putting on concrete also putting was atrocious as ball would bounce all the way to the hole tees were in bad shape and some bunkers had no sand in them driving range was like hitting off concrete no grass i just dont understand the theory of charging these high prices for bad conditions will not be back until i hear of different updates
  • 10/9/11, Eagle Chase Golf Club, Review by DrSchteeve - I am sad. This is among my favorite courses. I know the issues - in this economy, tough to afford anything...but...greens are being eaten by poa Anna, and there are still scars from a fungus...cart paths abysmal...without a white knight, I fear for this course...
  • 10/9/11, Emerald Lake Golf Club, Review by jbe - Course was in very good shape and the greens have repaired well since I played them a few weeks ago. (People, PLEASE fix your ball marks!) Teeboxes, fairways and bunkers all in good shape. I was playing as a single and played 27 holes in just over 4 hours. Still one of my favorite courses in the area.
  • 10/8/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by ILL-INI - Even though I played like shart and the rest of my group played like shart, I can't take anything away from Red Bridge. Pace of play was as quick as we could go at 7:40am. We actually fell a little behind the 4-some in front of us and needed to speed up. Greens are so darn quick, I actually don't mind it because i would rather have fast and rolling true than medium speed and less than true roll. The greens are in such good shape it's remarkable what they've done with this course. And at $44 at the course or $39 on click it you really can't go wrong with playing this course. I would put this course on the "Hard" to "Very Hard" list and right up there with "Break a club, curse out loud, vow to give up golf" list as well. You have to be a shotmaker on this course or at least have very good course management skills. There are very few times the course will bail you out for hitting a bad shot. That said, it's still a fun course to play and if you appreciate how well they are keeping care of this course you will have a great day. After you play try that burger joint Andy's over there by McDonalds as you leave. Cheeseburgers there are like the old school diner type and man are they awesome.
  • 10/8/11, Waterford Golf Club, Review by Matt - For the $28 clickit coupon right now, you won't regret playing this course. Greens A, fairways B+ or A-, Rough is very thick and can easily lose balls in it, teeboxes B, and sand was only bad thing; it was as hard as a brick. All in all, a great course right now at a great price. Also, they have the new mini-verde greens. They are fast and smooth because they ain't marked up; however don't expect to spin the ball back a lot or stick it real close because they are firm as well (that is why they don't mark up.) I would recommend. Not quite as good as Springfield but pretty similar to Fort Mill condition-wise. Much better than the other Trail courses I have played.
  • 10/8/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by cmgbulldog - This was my first round at Red Bridge. I have to admit, even though I played horrible, this course is in awesome condition. The greens are some of the best, if not the best, around. I played in a four-some, two of whom had played the course before and two that have not and trust me, it plays no favor for knowing the layout of the course. It is full of difficult tee shots and approach shots and challenging putts. Definitely a golf course suited for the target golfer. All-in-all, I'd recommend anyone that hasn't played here give it a shot, it's a little ways out there, but well worth the drive.
  • 10/4/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by izzyf150 - I have to agree with the last few posts about this course. The course is in great shape and it is very difficult. I think the reason that the greens are in great shape is because it’s an accomplishment to be on the green in regulation. Lots of people chipping up to the green due to the difficulty of the course. I know I’m not a great golfer but I didn’t need to use my divot repair tool the whole round. One thing about the course that I personally didn’t like was that the course has five par 5's and five par 3's. I enjoy normal amount of par 4's on a course but like I said this was just a personal issue. Another thing I didn’t like was there was many holes that require about a 180 yd tee shot to carry a hazard and reach the fairway or green, and thats if you hit straight shots. Someone like me who struggles with slices a lot gets killed with the loss of distance and the fact that the hazard is further to carry if you don’t take the short way across. This course is for the confident golfer.
  • 10/3/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by Jova007200 - I wanted to make sure I took back my green comments. I played again today, twice. First round was all to myself; nobody was out there. I was the first one there. The greens were absolutely perfect. Veeeeeeeeery few blemishes, and the apparent dimples have either been cut out and pressed out. I scored horribly; dang this course is difficult!
  • 10/2/11, Fort Mill Golf Club, Review by Matt - Course was very good. Everything was greened up nicely and the greens were consistent and rolled true. Only thing was some fairways were a little shaggy. Overall, a great course right now.
  • 10/2/11, The Divide Golf Club, Review by BOOMCB - Greens are recovering - only 2 or 3 are bad. The recent rains have helped.
  • 10/1/11, Waterford Golf Club, Review by metallikviper - Green were great. For some off reason we could never leave any pitch marks, but the ball still checked up pretty good. Tee boxes need some work and so do the fairways. Pin placement was tricky on more than a few holes. Marshals driving around the course course the whole day and everything seemed to be going smooth. I wish the roughs were not as rough as I did lose a couple of balls in the high rough. Definitely one of the best greens in the area.
  • 10/1/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by Jova007200 - I have to say, this course is well designed. Great layout, and somewhat difficult. The fairways were in great shape. The rough did have some dead clippings. I'm surprised that they cut it and left it like that, but its no biggie. It was just in contrast with the overall beauty of the course. The greens were bloody fast like the other reviewer of the day posted. However, they did do some punching recently enough that the greens were a little perforated. That's why I didn't give it a 5 out of 5 stars. It just pissed me off when I tapped it on a good line and when it slowed down near the hole it wobbled around and stopped. It wasn't a big deal but these greens are somewhat difficult, and when they're fast you have to rely on those last few slow inches; otherwise too fast and it will roll on by. I wanted to take out a shotgun and blast the ball to pieces where it lie. That said, the greens were in excellent and pretty much unblemished shape for this late in the season. I am guessing they're using Mini-Verde; its a much firmer surface. To beginners that might stop by this site and read. Be ware that you have to place your tee shots well. The fairways deliver a lot of bounce upon receipt of the ball. Several of mine bounced right off of the bloody fairway. Definitely a more challenging course, and not for the feint of heart. As for my game, I started off great. Then I caught up to the groups in front and fell apart. I always do that.
  • 10/1/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by Orion - An absolute fantastic course. Never played on a course this well kept. The greens were tricky and fast, the tee-boxes were flat and soft, the beer was cold, and the hot dogs were tasty (although there was no chili). It's a bit out of the way, about half an hour from Monroe, but the drive is so worth it. The course is extremely long, and a few holes that really make you think about what club to play. I absolutely encourage everybody to check it out.
  • 9/30/11, Charlotte National Golf Club, Review by izzyf150 - This course is in good shape. Fairways and tee boxes are good. The greens are pretty good also, with the exception of #15 which had a few bare sandy spots on it. Their sand traps could use some attention. Some of them are a little light on sand but they have an abundance of hard red clay just under the surface. I noticed other sand traps had small rocks in them (just a touch smaller than a penny). They have a lot of nice soft sand in a pile in the parking lot that has been sitting there for I don’t know how long. Over all a pretty good course for the price and the best deal on range balls you will find anywhere.
  • 9/28/11, Carolina Lakes Golf Club, Review by ctwheels - Greens were the best I have played on all year super fast. The greens are huge so you better hit your target or 3 putt is in order. The rest of course has matured well since the last time I played 2 years ago. The par 3's are some of prettiest you will play in the area. The pat 5's are bit of a disappointment, because the way they are step up it almost always forces you to lay-up on all but 1 out 4. The course itself is very demanding, certianly not build with a senior community in mind. The 1st hole is a bear. Up hill with bunker and OB in play and your second shot is to 2-tier green you cannot see, but only the flag with a false front. Take bogey and move on. They finally introduced a twilight rate after 2:00 it is $32 which is great otherwise it fairly expensive $58 during the week and $65 on weekend.
  • 9/26/11, Skybrook Golf Club, Review by izzyf150 - This is a nice course. At the moment it needs some work since it has been raining for the past 6 days. Some of the sand traps have standing water, some of them had dirt in them from water running into them, some of them had had trenches in them from water running through them and the rest just needed to be fluffed back up. The greens have a few divot markss on them but nothing to bad, just enough to be worth mentioning. These greens are fast compared to most of the public courses Ive been playing on. The course is little hilly on a few holes, and has yardage marked on cart paths, fairway blocks and a few sprinklers. I think they had water jugs on every other hole. Give them a couple days to get their sandtraps worked on and this course will be good again. Nice Course.
  • 9/26/11, Stonebridge Golf Club, Review by Orion - This is my favorite course now. I've only played for about a year now, but out of the places I've been (Monroe CC, Charlotte National, Mooresville CC, and Pine Lake), this is the best I've been to. I love the setting, the road that this runs across isn't very busy, you don't have to worry too much about the people driving by honking their horn just before you go to sink your winning put. Speaking of greens, I can tell that they are normally kept in good condition, but given the rain we have had, they were very soft and marked quite a lot. I was a little nervous because of all the marshalls driving around; we had a group of four, and two of us (including myself) were not the best. Luckily, we kept up with the group in front of us so it was never a problem. I am definitely looking forward to my next trip there!
  • 9/24/11, Stonebridge Golf Club, Review by metallikviper - Overall the course was in good shape and has held the summer heat well. Tee Boxes need some work. Fairways and roughs were cut to a good length. The sand in bunkers was a bit inconsistent. Some of the greens need help, but most greens rolled true. Definitely worth the $36 we paid. Really wish they had more Marshals on the course. I usually don't complain unless something really bothers me, but what I saw on Saturday was ridiculous. Right about at the 12 hole, 2 groups of 3 started playing as a 6-some. We almost had to wait 7-10 minutes on every hole. One of them even had a boom box which was playing music really loud. They wouldn't even let us play through. So, my friend calls the club house by the 15th hole to complain hoping they would do something and the marshal comes out and says we don't usually allow this kind of behavior and just drives away. They let them play 2 more holes and finally splits them up on the 18th!!! Instead of having guys picking up our clubs and cleaning them I would have much rather appreciated they stop this kind of foolery.
  • 9/19/11, Tillery Tradition Country Club, Review by izzyf150 - This is a nice course aobut a 50 minute drive for me from Indian Trail. They are currently reseeding their greens and therefore have a $25 green fee until Oct. 1. This is not a flat course by any means but still not to bad. I only recall 3 extream holes. One being a steep up hill tee shot. The other two were steep down hill shots. One was about a 185yd. par 3. I never had more hang time on a golf shot in my life (drives included) I half expected my ball to explode into flames when it hit the green. Yardage is marked on cart paths, sprinkler heads and fairway blocks. Sand traps are in great condition and have plenty of nice soft sand. The downside was the greens. Some are sandy, some are furry, and some are a combination of both. It was very hard to find in consistancy with putting. It added a few strokes to the score card for sure. This is a great looking golf course and when they get the greens finished--look out. Considering the greens and the fact that I only had to pay $25, I didnt feel like I got ripped off at all. NICE COURSE!
  • 9/17/11, Birkdale Golf Club, Review by metallikviper - Course is in great shape for this time of year. It was nice to play in 60* weather for a change. Greens are well maintained and were cut a bit fast. Roughs were cut a tad bit high. Staff was very friendly, but would have appreciated the marshals to push some of the slower moving groups. I guess 4.5-5 hrs is expected on weekends.
  • 9/17/11, Rocky River Golf Club, Review by Jova007200 - Went back to RR today. I must say, they are taking action on the greens and they aren't as bad as they were several weeks ago when I played last. I didn't see any burrows today and there were fewer spots of crab grass. I was able to 2 putt, and in a few cases, 1 putt some of the holes so it is better. There still are several that have bare spots, but they didn't come into play for me. Fairways were well kept and the sand was excellent. Tee boxes were good. I broke 110 for the first time in ages. I know that isn't that great, but for someone who never took it seriously before and just started back up it isn't bad. Its largely because of the horrible start that I had. I could have shaved 12 strokes off by hitting the range before my round to get the kinks out, and by improving on putting.
  • 9/17/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by ctwheels - Course was in good shape, greens were a little slow, mainly due to all the rain. Otherwise one of favorites to play, very fair and good test. Allot of elevation changes and very scenic. For the money one of the best around.
  • 9/16/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by ctwheels - Greens were rolling nice. First time I played course and it was worth the drive. Pro game out introduced himself and gave me some pointers. A few blind holes that I did not care for other than that it was great course allot of fun. Greens were tricky and par 3's were fantastic.

What happened? This used to be a great course. Played it 9/13/11. Greens had some kind of clumps growing into them along with bare spots. Bunkers were washed out and full of rocks. Tee boxes were thin. Only positive were the fairways. Very disappointed after bragging to my playing partner about the course. I've played there maybe ten times but not in the last three years.
  • 9/14/11, The Golf Club at Ballantyne, Review by The B-Man - I was invited to play here on media day and see the improvements they have made and the shape the new greens are in now. I must say I was impressed. My last experience here back in May was not great because they had just started the construction behind #2 tee and the renovation of #8. While the building construction is still in progress, the #2 tee has been moved closer to the 8th green and now makes the hole play as a more difficult dogleg right. For #8, they have built a new green in front of the creek, shortening the hole and softening the slope of the green. They are still filling in the old temporary green with sod in the middle of the new fairway. So that played as ground under repair. They said the sod should be finished within the week. Everywhere else the conditions were impeccable, especially the new Champion Ultra Dwarf greens. The course recently hosted an LPGA championship and the greens were cut extremely fast -- as fast as any I've ever played. That made the course play more difficult than usual. I realize it was media day and all, but I was treated extremely well by the entire staff and had a great experience. I look forward to going back soon.
  • 9/11/11, Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Greens still not back from punching - bumpy and slow. I'd look for at least another 2 weeks. A few greens also had some bare spots that the punching didn't solve. Other conditions fine.
  • 9/11/11, Regent Park Golf Club, Review by Sephlo - Course is in decent shape. Normal wear for late summer greens. Only a few greens were really iffy. Fairways and tee boxes were excellent.
  • 9/11/11, Springfield Golf Club, Review by Matt - Course in great shape like normal and my score in bad shape like normal.
  • 9/9/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by malamute - like players are posting - course is in great shape
  • 9/9/11, Regent Park Golf Club, Review by 2bluemonkeys - I don't get it? I'm reading the reviews of Regent and for the most part they are all positive. These reviews are so NOT accurate and are either from Regent's employee's...all 4 of them...or member's trying to lure the unsuspecting to the course so they actually get some $ coming in!!! This place is a goat ranch. Greens need no description cause they don't exist...bunkers are NEVER raked...tee boxes are cut at 4-5" and their bermuda...rough always has clumps of grass in it as they never bag or blow...bare spots EVERYWHERE...and that's just the first hole. Any positive comment's dating back to 03/04/05 are valid BUT what's been posted as of late is just NOT correct. Renaissance does have a twin...Regent Park.
  • 9/7/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Not many times I can say perfect, but this was it. Greens, fairways, bunkers, teeboxes, rough. Nice layout. 3 hour pace. Wow.
  • 9/5/11, Charlotte National Golf Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Greens are starting to get chewed up - like all bent grass greens in the area. Mixed areas of top dressing with sand and seed make the putting surfaces inconsistent. Probably will wait for green punching to allow conditions to improve before returning.
  • 9/5/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by ezndat - course in great shape, greens well maintained, fairways nice, bunkers are just fine....is a bit of a drive unless you live that way but well worth it...if first time playing I suggest driving the cart up the fairway if you can't see everything as there are some hazards you can't see well off the tee...
  • 9/4/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by mondiablo - The course was in great shape. The greens are about 95% healed from being punched several weeks ago...little slow. New sand in the bunkers made for predictable bunker shots. Fairways were green and running. Driving range and practice green were in great shape. Except for a few quirky holes, definitely worth playing!
  • 9/4/11, Birkdale Golf Club, Review by ISlayMySelf - New favorite course in Charlotte only made better by a great price on EZLinks. Fairways were in great condition, greens a little beat up but still good and the tee boxes showed a little wear and tear. The sand traps were in good shape and that is a real plus compared to other courses in Charlotte that I have played. If you have never played it I strongly recommend you do.
  • 9/4/11, Rocky River Golf Club, Review by ThatDudeP - Now I'm a little partial to Rocky River. I like the design, the obstacles and the marsh on the back 9. Lots of doglegs, and fairways are almost always flawless. Very little divots and neatly trimmed grass. The only downfall here though are the greens. Almost all of the greens are rough, with crabgrass and patches. They aren't the worst I've seen, but in contrast to the fairways, they're a sight for sore eyes. Still a great course, challenging and fun to play. When there's a race though, it willllll be loud.
  • 9/3/11, Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club, Review by El Supremo - We got at least 2 inches of rain on the north side of town Friday so the course was wet and path only. Course is in really great shape. Their club championship is next weekend so it'll be perfect for that and after. They do something interesting with the tee sheet on the weekend. They have ten minute tee times, starting groups on 1 and 10 until 930 and then they don't start anyone else until noon. Seems to be working for them. Fix your ball marks.
  • 9/3/11, Emerald Lake Golf Club, Review by mjkcfp - Course was in great shape. Played as a single and flew through the 18 holes. The bunkers were so well taken care of. Sadly, I was in them 5 times in my round and all 5 times the condition was perfect, well maintained. Too often courses seem to neglect the bunkers in my opinion. Not the case here. Greens were very soft and in great shape with one exception. The 2nd par 3 on the back nince was a little tore up. But you could see it was an exception and work was being done to fix it. I will be back, this course was great. I highly recommend it.
  • 9/3/11, Birkdale Golf Club, Review by ThatDudeP - My first time at Birkdale. Here's My confessional impression. Enjoy. Being that it's an Arnold Palmie design, you can say it's a players, players course. Everyone wants to play here; players and noobs like myself alike. Was it worth the hype? Oh it's not too shabby. I don't think it quite compares to Tot Hill Farms up in Asheboro (Why is that course not on here btw?), but it's a beautifully designed course with large, open rolling fairways and a few water hazards. Speaking of, #18 was my favorite hole. You will drive through neighborhoods, roll across streets and might even get the chance to indulge your eyes in a hot milf, possibly cougar jogging through the streets. While offering carts with GPS was a biiiiiig perk, 80% of the carts didn't have them. But if you ask and tip nicely, they'll take care of ya. Greens were punched, but they didn't affect roll too much. Strangely, for a course of this caliber, the bathrooms were still pretty filthy. In short, I wouldn't pay the $69 rack rate, but if you can book a Tee time though EZLinks, it's worth the 40 bucks.
  • 9/2/11, The Tradition Golf Club, Review by Jova007200 - Played this course today and once again got chased off by weather. However, we made it to the 16th hole today so it wasn't that bad. The fairways are pretty chewed up in spots, but it is a public course and it gets its share of traffic. No issues there. The greens are indeed a bit beat up as the previous reviewer stated, but its not all that bad. I managed to 2 putt most of them from various distances. I might care more if I were a better golfer, but I'm not there yet. My main issue arose when we were leaving due to the storm. They shouldn't be letting people go out when a heavy storm with severe lightning has been sighted near by within a mile or so. Where I come from some places would send rangers out to round people up. Sure, golf at your own risk, but you can't be letting people start off or play through the back nine just because they want to tough it out. Administratively that is just irresponsible.
  • 9/1/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by panthersfann55 - Had to go back after the good experience we had last time. With clickit deal and $10 off coupon paid only $21. Golf course was still in great shape for being the end of summer only the greens are starting to show the wear of unfixed ball marks. It's sad that something so easily fixable by us golfers is so forgotten (laziness). Too bad it takes over an hour to get there, so looks like we will be back next year.
  • 8/31/11, Fox Den Country Club, Review by IM4DHERD - Course is in good shape...Never has really had a manicured look, but fairways, rough, tees and greens are all looking good. Fun course to play. Took advantage of an $18 coupon on Golfnow.com. 2.5 hour pace.
  • 8/28/11, The Divide Golf Club, Review by ezndat - Divide Greens are better than they were a month ago but still pretty rough....
  • 8/27/11, Birkdale Golf Club, Review by Hackerama - Some small holes punched, otherwise, good shape, played less than 4hrs and greens were rolling. They will be perfect in SEPT.
  • 8/26/11 - Msg Board Posting about The Golf Club at Ballantyne
    Ballantyne green fees   HateSlowPlay
I played yesterday at Ballantyne for the first time. Really enjoyed the course and would love to play there again. Which leads me to my question.

Does anybody know when the best time to play there is on the weekend to get a good rate? Do they have a twilight rate after 2pm or 4pm or something like that?

I can never find any online discounts for this course on clickitgolf.com and the like.
  • 8/26/11, Fort Mill Golf Club, Review by metallikviper - Course was absolutely perfect. Tee boxes in great shape, roughs cut to a good height, fairways were well maintained and the greens were immaculate. These new greens have really held up well for the summer and show absolutely no signs of abuse. Sand in bunkers was well raked. Only problem we encountered was that we were stuck behind to groups of walkers and neither would let us play through. Nothing against walkers, but if you're a >25 handicap you have no business walking. We had to skip 2 holes to get past them. The $17 walker rate probably drew them all in. We saw plenty of marshals but neither of them seemed to bother. Twilight rate of $35 is still a good rate.
  • 8/26/11, Charlotte National Golf Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Just ballmarks on thin bentgrass greens average for late summer. Other conditions as expected. Rough is brutal, but again that is typical for this time of year.
  • 8/26/11, Waterford Golf Club, Review by dongtrgolfer - Course in fairly good shape. Greens are perfect. Fast and in great shape. Some fairways and some tee boxes grass is burnt out and brown. Bring your hammer for some of the tee boxes, hard as a rock. Rough is really "Rough". Easy to lose balls in very thick rough on many of the holes. Some really tough pin placements on several holes today. Pace of play was good and we made it around in just under 4 hrs. Price included lunch so not a bad deal.
  • 8/23/11, Skybrook Golf Club, Review by seamga - YOU MUST PLAY SKYBROOK! The best course in the Charlotte area. Everything, from the tees to greens are in perfect condition. The staff at Skybrook are very professional and friendly. The carts are equipped with Prolink GPS. I am not a member of the course but I
  • 8/21/11, Rocky River Golf Club, Review by bjl877 - Don't do it! I say this because the greens are in terrible condition. The fringes are nonexistent and the greens are bare at best and there are actually weed patches on them. The shame of it is the fairways are nearly perfect. I would avoid until the greens improve unless you want automatic 2 putt all day long.
  • 8/21/11, The Divide Golf Club, Review by KPK704 - Worst course I have ever played in terms of conditions! I have played over 200 courses as well. The greens were hands down the worst I have ever putted on. Fairways at a private clubs are miles better. Just basically dirt with weeds and bumpy dirt at that. I have never played here before and I was not expecting much. But after 4 holes I was ready to go in and get my money back. Why play when you have a 6 footer for birdie and have to get lucky to make it! My membership just ran out at Emerald Lake and I was thinking about this place instead and they could not let me play there for free. I would choose to pay to play elsewhere, that's how bad it is. STAY AWAY! Unless you want to waste your money.
  • 8/21/11, The Tradition Golf Club, Review by ISlayMySelf - First time I have played here and I really enjoyed it. Tee box and fairways were in good condition. The greens are soft, fast and a little beat up but they are better then a lot of the courses on the Carolina Trail. Keep the ball in the fairway and you will have a good day. Mounds on the edge of the fairways will shoot any missed tee shots into the rough or woods and they are gone because both are thick. Only complaint is the pace of play. We had to wait on every tee and approach shot because the course was backed up. Longest round I have ever played and started at 1pm. They also have a good chicken salad sandwich and some "talent" on the beverage cart.
  • 8/20/11, Verdict Ridge Golf & Country Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Greens punched 2 weeks ago and quite bumpy and sandy, everything else good. Round was $49 and a coupon was given to take 1/2 off a future round before the end of the year - applicable without any limits (weekends and holidays OK). Everything good but the greens - rough was punishing, but consistent. Always a great course even when conditions aren't perfect.
  • 8/19/11, Regent Park Golf Club, Review by Matt - Greens awful, everyhting else great to excellent.
  • 8/17/11, Eagle Chase Golf Club, Review by malamute - greens are in ok shape - some rubbish but pins cut away from most of it - putts still rolled well / fairways good / still worth the drive to play
  • 8/16/11, Springfield Golf Club, Review by Russell - Took the afternoon off to play this course near where I work. Pace of play was terrific - we teed off around 2pm did not see anyone for the whole round. The course was in terrific shape - specifically the greens - but I got an email that they are being punched next week. Tees, fairways and traps were all good. Yes, the greens do not hold as well as bent but they are not unplayable - maybe that was due to the recent rains. 7, 8 and 9 is one of the hardest three hole stretches in Charlotte.
  • 8/14/11, The Tradition Golf Club, Review by Russell - It has been a few years since I have played the Tradition because I never felt it was well conditioned. Well, while conditions were not perfect they were better than some other courses I have played recently. The tees and fairways were in good shape. The greens were ok - definitely chewed up due to the soft conditions. They rolled pretty quick and very bouncy. (I guess this is the time of year to search out mini-verde greens.) The traps were a mess possibly because of overnight rain - but I doubt it. Pace of play was slow partly because of cart path only. Overall, pleasantly surprised - probably because I had low expectations.
  • 8/14/11, Lancaster Golf Club, Review by Hackerama - We got a 4 for 120 special and it was ok. It reminded me of a Public Course or Muni type of track. Fairways were shaggy, Greens were super slow. Lay was ok, nothing too exciting. You're better off going to Edgewater if you drive all the way down there.
  • 8/13/11, Highland Creek Golf Club, Review by Russell - First time playing this course. It is definitely a step up from some of the other Carolina trail courses. (Tradition, Divide, Links) I enjoyed the layout. Not many flat lies. Conditions were ok. The tees and fairways were above average. The greens were typical of what I have seen from other bent greens in town - soft and torn up. Very bumpy from ball marks. The traps are a disaster - washed out, water filled and rocky. And then there was the pace of play. Granted it was cart paths only but almost 6 hours for the round? There were rangers out but I am not sure what they were doing. One told us that they are trying their best to maintain conditions with less money - and it is noticeable throughout the course.
  • 8/13/11, Olde Sycamore Golf Plantation, Review by DrSchteeve - Greens are very chewed and bumpy, mixed with bare spots, mixed with one sanded green. Pace of play was horrific - we had to play catch up to get through in 5 hours. The course blamed this on too many people showing up for an outing and another extra group showing up - they let them on the course on a packed Saturday morning with 9 minute spreads!?! Won't be back for a while. I'm beginning to think of Olde Sycamore as the Lucy and the football course - things happen to make me swear I won't go back, but since it is a good layout and conditions can be good, I keep going back and then something like this happens. Come on, Charlie Brown, I won't pull the football away this time. I promise!
  • 8/13/11, Tega Cay Golf Club, Review by Matt - Conditions great, greens great! Layout is fun and course is definately a target course with some tight holes. One of my friends making a hole in one didn't hurt my opinion of the course either. :)
  • 8/12/11, Emerald Lake Golf Club, Review by IM4DHERD - One of my favorite courses. Fairways, tees and greens overall in very good shape. There is some crabgrass poking up on some greens which they will need to get working on, but may be afraid to kill now due to the heat. Teed off at 3PM and finished at 5:15 and was slowed by one group who wouldn't let me through for two holes. Hosted the Marshall U. Athletic Booster Club golf outing there the next day. They do a wonderful job with outings at the best rates in the area. Head pro TJ Congleton just left Emerald Lake about a week or two ago...Not sure where he went.
  • 8/12/11, Springfield Golf Club, Review by NLM - Conditioning excellent compared to other local courses this time of year. Greens rolled true and had good pace, tees good, fairways excellent. Will definitely go back soon.
  • 8/11/11, Springfield Golf Club, Review by Matt - Only compliant is greens are very firm and not very receptive. They are great to putt on though. Everything else from tee boxes to fairways is perfect or very close to it.
  • 8/11/11, Stonebridge Golf Club, Review by Jova007200 - I didn't finish the course unfortunately because of the rain, but the 7 holes that I did play were all in great shape. The greens were a bit marked, but I'd think that its expected at this point in the season. The staff is friendly..... it being my first time there I was kinda "lost." Tried to start off at the 10th tee. The starter came over and put me on the right path after my goofy error. Gave me a pamphlet with the course layout too. Can't wait to go back. Got a $16 credit since I stopped after 7. They've got great rates at 6 PM. 16 bucks for a round.
  • 8/10/11, Renaissance Park Golf Course, Review by NLM - Wow, was the conditioning terrible at this course. There literally were patches of rough growing in numerous spots on the greens. Greens were super slow, sandtraps hadn't seen a rake in days. Rough was randomly cut so that there were bare stripes next to 3" grass. $15 would have been a fair rate today. I am sad to say that I was dumb enough to pay $39. Maybe I will check it out again in the fall, but these issues didn't just seem weather related.
  • 8/7/11, Red Bridge Golf & Country Club, Review by DrSchteeve - Everything was really good. The new routing definitely improves the layout. They continue to take very good care of the course, the Bermuda greens fare very well this time of year, and at $39 just impossible to beat.
  • 8/7/11, Rocky River Golf Club, Review by Jova007200 - The course itself was wet still in places from the recent rain. However, the heat of the day dried most of that off. The fairways were just fine. One or two bare spots here and there, but its been a while since we've gotten decent rain and its been hot. That wasn't a big deal to me, as it isn't going to realistically affect your game. The traps were hard and some of them had spots of erosion due to the very recent rain. They may have neglected them due to the coming rain for today. The problems lie in the greens. A few have bare spots, but they are small. Most, if not all of them have weeds growing through them. They're obviously mowed down, but they will affect ball speed and direction; some of them substantially. There were a few greens with Red Velvet Ant burrows, the 16th was bad at the front edge, but that really isn't the fault of the course... They can't stop them from burrowing. However, the weeds are unfortunate. I would have loved to rate the course well based on the rest of the course, but the greens are just..... unfortunate. Twilight is recommended for golfers who want to hunt for balls when its empty behind them. A lot of balls in the deep stuff, in the weeds, and in the wooded areas. Just be careful that you aren't picking up a ball that someone else like me just flew in, hehe.
  • 8/4/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by panthersfann55 - I normally do not give 5 stars for any course, but going off previous reviews we had to check this course out. Greens in great shape especially when they hold long and short iron shots into them (had a ball suck back 29 ft), fairways had some run to them, rough an average height, driving range (free balls),practice green speed was the same as on the course (very rare at most golf courses), free bottled water available on course, clubhouse staff friendly. The rate drop as well as a clickit discount deal made it a no brainer. you will not find a better public course in this condition at this time of year anywhere.
  • 8/3/11, Eagle Chase Golf Club, Review by Motedog - This is the third time I've played this course in the past 3 months. The other two times I really enjoyed it. This time however, I was really dissapointed. I love the layout here and the big elevation changes are really cool but, the greens are absolutely terrible. Their weeds growing out of them and little bare spots towards the edges. Even when their was a green that did'nt look terrible the grass would be all weird and moving in different directions which caused the greens to be ridicoulsly slow. It's a shame becuase I used to really enjoy playing here and actually had my best round here (93) about a month ago but won't be going back anytime soon.
  • 8/2/11, Charlotte Golf Links, Review by mjkcfp - Played 9 holes after work. Got them in in just over an hour. Course was pretty mush wide open. Greens stood out as being an issue. They have two types of grass...which appear to grow at different rates and cause putts to jump all over. For some reason I was chipping well and had close puts most of the time, so I only had one put that I felt was bumped out of line by this issue. They should really overhaul greens and get it down to one grass. Fairways were nice and lush. Tee boxes in good shape. But I will try another course until I hear the greens are not an issue. That is where I plan on at least two strokes per hole...I like it to be true. My game does not need the added challenge of patches of furry grass spots on greens.
  • 8/1/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by Fattyhoon - Been hearing great things about this course and wanted to play it for a while. Now that I have, all I can say is WOW. This course it a little bit of a hike from Charlotte, but well worth the drive. Best Course I have played in years...and I play them all. I usually agree with Mat on here that Springfield is one of the nicest in the area, until I played Edgewater. Course was in Pristine condition. Tee Boxes, Fairways and greens were PERFECT. Rough wasn't as high as other places, but was full and challenging. Greens were a tad slow, but were being watered around us, so this was to be expected. Very few marks of any kind, and they rolled consistent and true all day. Staff was all very friendly and helpful, with one even stopping and spotting a ball for me on a blind shot. Scenery was beautiful, and there was very little play. What a serene and relaxing round of golf. This course is worth double what they charge, and for $40 range balls and bottle water on the course were included. I am trying to think of a negative thing to say and I can't find a thing. I already have a time booked for later this week. What a fantastic Jewel in the rough this course is. A+++
  • 7/31/11, Edgewater Golf Club, Review by CU_Tigerfan - This was my first time down there, and first time playing anywhere in a while. As everyone else has already stated, conditions were fantastic. Greens were all smooth and everything rolled true. They are a little slow, but given the brutal heat lately, you can't really expect anything different. On top of that, they have excellent customer service with free range balls and bottled water. With all that being said, I didn't really like the layout. I know I am in the minority opinion on that, but I just didn't think it was very memorable. The other three friends I played with all loved it though, so I guess take my opinion for what it's worth.
