|Re: KIS Country Club and Golf Academy||Aaron at 10/30/07 8:31pm|
|The KIS golf system is actually very impressive and can help golfers of all levels. I am a member and my handicap dropped 10 strokes in the first 3 months of using the clubs (low 80's). Also, I do not think they are "cheesy". I highly recommend anyone to check them out.|
|westport||sam simono at 10/24/07 6:47pm|
|Played Larkhaven and Warrior in last two weeks and found both in great shape. Thinking about going to Westport next week and wondering if anyone could give me some feedback on giving that course a try.|

|Re: Larkhaven||panthersfann55 at 10/18/07 12:17am|
|played 2 weeks ago. not a bad round for the afternoon. greens were a little slow. at least the fairways had grass. even in this drought.|
|Larkhaven||B-Man at 10/17/07 2:03pm|
|Played with someone Monday who said Larkhaven is doing better and that management seems to be making a good effort this year to get it back in shape.
Can anyone confirm or deny that report? How's Larkhaven looking these days?
|Re: Golf Courses||Russell at 9/18/07 12:48pm|
|Make sure to call ahead for condtions. Many courses have recently aerated their greens and could make for a disappointing round.|
|Re: Golf Courses||golf4jf at 9/18/07 10:14am|
|The 3 courses I would play are, Ballantyne, Verdict Ridge and Skybrook of course Springfield and Regent park are great too.|
|KIS Country Club and Golf Academy||Charles at 9/16/07 5:22pm|
|My wife and I toured the KIS Golf in Nashville. We played a round with an employee of KIS at Cole Park on Ft. Campbell Ky. (Course is kept in excellent shape and is open to civilians)
We are still learning; but it appeared they were selling vacation ownership and giving away "cheesy" golf equipment.
We did not want to take the chance of undoing everything we have learned the past 4 years.
|Golf Courses||Mark B at 9/15/07 4:58pm|
|I will be in Charlotte on the November 11th weekend and will have three days and would like to golf three different courses. If you only had the ability to golf three courses (public) which would you chose. Cost not a huge issue as I will only have one chance to golf these courses and do not want to miss out.
Thanks for any advice you can give me
|Advice||Ryan at 9/12/07 7:58pm|
|Hi, I'm going to be moving to Charlotte in about a month and I'm looking to find/join a course with a decent range program and a good instructor. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks! Love the site!|
|conditions||golf4jf at 9/12/07 10:07am|
|Hey guys, Can anyone give me there opinion on the conditions of Verdict Ridge and Regent Park?
|Charlotte National||panthersfann55 at 8/31/07 9:11pm|
|Played Charlotte National yesterday. greens are in good shape for being in a drought and paying only $30 (with discount card)this place is the best value in town. i did stop by fort mill wed and asked about the greens (since i saw all the sand) i was told they just airified and reseeded. big mistake in august. i used to work on a golf course and there is a reason most places wait until sept to do this (heat and humidity.|
|Fort Mill Golf Club||Bill V at 8/31/07 2:08pm|
|Avoid Fort Mill Golf Club due to the greens that are in horrible condition! Literally NO grass to be seen on 95% of the greens. I enjoy this course often but was very frustrated they didn't provide an "accurate" warning of the conditions.
By the way, I just discovered this site today and like the layout and the links to the discounts.
|Rocky River Update||Jim C at 8/30/07 10:32pm|
|I played Rocky River Wednesday, August 29 and found the greens in horrible shape. I was shocked! I have always loved the greens at Rocky River. They had large areas with no grass. Some greens had been somehow plowed with cuts running the length of the green. All greens had been punched. The holes were about 50% healed over.
If you love Rocky River because of their consistant nice condition, don't play it now. You'll want a refund.

|I am curious about a place I just saw in the Concord Mills Mall. It looks very interesting and I would love any feed back that you could give me.It is called Kis Golf and seems to be very reasonably priced.|
|Re: october golf||Claude at 8/23/07 3:05pm|
|Springfield is a bear! One of the toughest courses in the area. Ballantyne is in great shape, not sure about the others.|
|october golf||golf4jf at 8/22/07 7:47pm|
|Hey Guys...Its getting to be that time of year again and I need your input. My buddies and I are coming to the Charlotte area from Columbus Ohio in mid October. We are playing, Regent Park, Verdict Ridge, Springfield and Ballantyne. We have played all of them before except Springfield. I would appreciate any information regarding the condition of these courses. Thx golf4jf|
|Re: Belmont||B-Man at 8/19/07 10:02am|
|Just a quick note about Pawtuckett. Afraid it closed about a year and a half ago. Sold to developers, but last I checked it was still idle and grown over. Really a shame. I used to love that course, one of the first courses I played here in Charlotte and a great layout.|
|Re: Belmont||Calude at 8/19/07 9:56am|
I'd start with taking a look at Verdict Ridge http://www.verdictridge.com/ and Skybrook http://www.skybrookgolf.com/. Skybrook is awesome!
Pawtucket may also be a nice option for you http://www.golfholes.com/nc/pawtuckett-golf.htm
Green Meadows is also very close by http://www.golflink.com/golf-courses/course.asp?course=670245
Hope that helps and hope you enjoy your time in Belmont and the surrounding area.

|Belmont area courses?||Ron at 8/16/07 9:53am|
|Hello, we will be visiting family in Sept. who live in Belmont and we are looking for course recommendations. We don't want to spend a fortune but we would like to play some nice courses even if it means plying later in the day. We are also willing to drive within 30 minutes. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks, Ron|
|Carolina Lakes||JW at 8/2/07 6:38pm|
|I actually stopped by the Carolina Lakes clubhouse today on a whim. The course looked pretty nice from what I could tell, and the parking lot was about 60% full at 4:00 on a HOT Thursday afternoon. SOMEBODY knows about the place, it's just not well publicized. Anyways, I stopped into the pro shop to inquire about greens fees. They told me it was "$63.13 exactly" all days, all times for non-residents of the community. Hope this helps!|
|Re: Sun City||B-Man at 8/2/07 10:00am|
|Best information I could find:
5074 Grandview Drive
Fort Mill, SC 29707
Sun City Carolina Lakes is approximately 25 miles south of Uptown Charlotte on Highway 521 in Lancaster County, S.C., and only 25 miles from the Charlotte-Douglas International Airport. From the North: Take I-77 South to I-485 East toward Pineville to Johnston Road (Highway 521). Merge onto Hwy 521 South via exit 61. Go approximately 9 miles. The site is located on the west side of Hwy 521 at Jim Wilson Road. (5.5 miles south of the NC State Line)
From the South: I-77 North to 485 East, take Hwy 521 South via exit 61. Go approximately 9 miles. Sun City Carolina Lakes will be on the right. The site is located on the west side of Hwy 521 at Jim Wilson Road. (5.5 miles south of the NC State Line)
From Hwy 160: Highway 160 East to Highway 521. Turn right heading south onto Highway 521. Sun City Carolina Lakes is approximately 4 miles down on the right.
The only phone number I found was for one of the builders, Del Webb, PHONE: 803-746-4468.
If someone gets a scorecard and can send it to me, let me know.

|This little putting game is quickly addicting:
|Carolina Lakes (Sun City)||jonathan at 7/16/07 9:11am|
|Played it on 7/12 and loved it. As noted before, markings are a little scarce and a course map is not available yet, however this is going to be a gem in a couple of years. Hole nine reminds me of something you would see at in Miami....bunkers, bunkers everywhere.
The cost is a little steep compared with other locals, but the cost is constant. So if it is $58 on Wednesday then it's going to cost you $58 on Sat as well. Aside from the cost, lack of a layout map and minimal course markings, this Sun City gets a major thumbs up from me!
It's incredibly spread out and just a fun and challenging course too play.
|Carolina Lakes (at Sun City)||J.D. at 7/15/07 5:59pm|
|This course opened in December and with another year of growth it will become one of Charlotte's best and most challenging courses. It's extremely hilly. Think Charlotte's "Bandon Dunes." The greens and bunkers are king-sized, which really throws off your ability to gauge distances. Yardage markers and white/red/yellow stakes are scarce, but I've been assured that they're going to improve all of that soon.
I played it twice today, once from the blue tees and one from the whites. Without a yardage book (coming soon, they say), the whites are tougher because you'll find you need to be more accurate with the driver to avoid running through fairways. In fact, a great tip for anyone playing the whites is -- leave your driver in the bag all day. Even when it looks safe, 3 wood is the right club.
B-man -- you've gotta give this course a try and add it to your arsenal of local courses. You won't be disappointed.
|Carolina Crossing||Squid at 7/10/07 9:07am|
|I also played Carolina Crossing back around Father's day. I agree with what the other two lads said. The greens were slow beyond belief. However, the rest of the course was in pretty good shape. The back 9 is a little close together and I found myself playing from another fairway a few times!!|
|Re: Carolina Crossings||Paul at 7/9/07 10:53am|
|I agree with the posting from jamie. If any of you are married, you know that your wife does not always enjoy you spending 60 bucks to play golf, so my brother and I have had to find courses that are a decent drive, but prices we used to pay when we were younger. all courses, including Springfield (my fave here) have outpriced us. That being the case, Carolina Crossings has become a course we play often. The greens, yes, very slow. but the fairways are very plush, and in great shape. GPS on the carts is a plus, and you can get some crazy deals, below 20 bucks with a car on some sites. if you live in south charlotte, and get a good rate, it is worth the play.|
|Carolina Crossing||Jamie at 7/1/07 3:09pm|
|I played Carolina Crossing (formerly Carolina Downs) near Rock Hill yesterday for the first time. I had heard it used to be in poor condition, and then was bought by two local businessmen and renovated. The course, although a good value for the money ($38 Saturday AM), is a little paradoxic. What do I mean by that? Well....
First the good: very friendly staff, the fairways were plush and in great shape. The greens were fairly smooth and consistent.
Now the bad: the greens were consistently the slowest I have putted on all year. It was very difficult to get the speed right on putts. I was amazed by how slow they were, and this was at 7:45 AM after they had just been cut!
Also, the layout of the course is a little odd. The vast majority of the holes are narrow doglegs, probably because the course is also extremely short, only 6000 yards from the BLUE tees! Several blind shots, and a few fairways slope downhill AWAY from the dogleg, so even perfect tee shots end up in the rough. Local knowledge is important here. The fairwyas are also very close to each in opposite directions on several holes, so errant tee shots can cause a problem.
Considering all, I'd give the course a thumbs up for the price, and I'll come back, but I sure hope the greens are faster next time. Give the course a try, but consider yourself warned.
