Golf-Related Website Links
Here's a list of sites that The B-Man uses frequently. If you are looking for course-related web sites, go to the course information page. The official web site is listed under the course address and there's a list of discount links at the bottom of the course detail page.
Golfing with B-Man in the Carolinas
My companion blog for the site. I'll post thoughts and comments about golf in the area and golf in general. You can post comments as well. [Note: I apologize this has been inactive for some time. Will start updating again soon.]
Golf Vacations in the Carolinas
B-Man's guide to golf vacations in North and South Carolina with links to some of the best package deals.
Clickit Golf
Offers prepaid vouchers for discount rates at many local courses in the Carolinas. Purchase rounds ahead of time with a credit card and get a great low price. I use this site frequently and it's usually the first place I check for deals, updated weekly. Good site to check if you don't have a coupon and are looking for a reasonable rate.
GolfHoles.com - Charlotte Course Directory
Offers prepaid vouchers (Paypal only) for discount rates at local course in the Carolinas. Includes course information and photo tours of many courses.
FindaGolfer.com
This site is a good resource for finding golfers, games, tournaments and other like-minded enthusiasts here in Charlotte. Rick Scherer organizes weekly matches and is now tracking scores & handicaps for regular players. Sign up and give it a try.
Charlotte Observer Golf
The Charlotte Observer online edition hosts a section for golf news, editorials, instructional articles, course reviews and web site links. It's a great source for local golf news and tidbits as well as regular instruction pieces from Dana Rader.
Charlotte's GolfNow.com
This site is sponsored by The Golf Channel and allows you to book tee times online for many local Charlotte courses. I haven't used this one yet but it does appear to offer some discounts for off-peak times. Most of the peak times are rack rate -- where you'd be better off calling in your own tee time and using a Clickit voucher. Worth a look if your time and course choice is flexible.
Leatherman Golf Learning Center
A great place to practice all parts of your game. I checked out LGLC this week (May '08) for the first time and was impressed. They have dozens of artificial tee mats as well as a traditional grass tee area. I enjoyed using the soft tee mats on the bottom. They feel like solid turf, don't mark up your clubs and they accommodate regular golf tees. There's also a great chipping green with a sand bunker. Buckets start at $6 for 45 balls and they offer memberships, lessons and group outings. Inside the well-stocked pro shop, you can also get a few cold ones to drink while you practice. And if you sign up on their web site, you can get an email discount for a free small bucket right off the bat.
Carolinas Golf Association
*The* association for amateur golfers in NC and SC. Regularly hosts large tournament events in different formats for amateurs at all levels at courses throughout the Carolinas, including season-ending championships on Tour-quality venues such as Pinehurst resort. I signed up in 2008 and have only played 1 official tournament so far, but it was competitive and fun. I'll be looking to play more tournaments in 2009.
Orlando Golf Conditions
This is a similar site to B-Man's Guide for Charlotte and covers courses in and around Orlando, Florida. Orlando Golf Conditions provides golfers with area news and reviews, tournament information, golf specials, tips and most importantly, golf conditions from all of Orlando’s courses. To find an Orlando golf course, visit Orlando Golf Conditions.
The First Tee of Charlotte
This local chapter of the First Tee non-profit organization has as its mission: To impact the lives of young people by providing learning facilities and educational programs that promote character development and life-enhancing values through the game of golf. The programs are specifically targeted at youth aged 9-18 years old. Revolution Park is undergoing renovations this fall to host facilities for the program.
Charlotte egolf Amateur Tour
This a great local tour for individual competition. Plays regularly at many of the local courses listed here and some within an hour of the city. Entering its fourteenth season, the Amateur Tour conducts stroke-play golf tournaments for golfers of all ages and handicaps. Winners get trophies and gift certifcates. There are also prizes for long drive and closest to the pin.
Golf Galaxy Charlotte Golf Tour
The Golf Galaxy Charlotte Golf Tour is a real golf tour hosting golf tournaments for the average golfer played on Charlotte, North Carolina area public golf courses. Participate in one and two day, 2 person team golf tournaments with merchandise payouts for top 30% of the field. Open to all golfers (men, women and juniors) who normally score 95 or less on 18 holes. Best-ball and scramble formats hosted.
Yahoo! Handicap Tracker
Free, easy-to-use tool to track your USGA Handicap Index. It's not "official" but it uses the correct USGA formula, taking into account the course's rating and slope. The site also allows to form your own private groups and keep track of your buddy's index as well.
