Charlotte's LastMinuteGolfer.com
Great place to get last minute deals and advance purchase rounds at big discounts at local courses. I've used the Atlanta version as well and it works great. Check the tee times and rates available the day before you plan to play. Also offers course conditions updates and aeration schedules. Use my Ambassador code BMANCLT01 when you register and get 200 Frequent Golfer Yards free. You can use the yards to get discounts on bookings and even free golf!
Leatherman Golf Learning Center
A great place to practice all parts of your game. I checked out LGLC this week (May '08) for the first time and was impressed. They have dozens of artificial tee mats as well as a traditional grass tee area. I enjoyed using the soft tee mats on the bottom. They feel like solid turf, don't mark up your clubs and they accommodate regular golf tees. There's also a great chipping green with a sand bunker. Buckets start at $6 for 45 balls and they offer memberships, lessons and group outings. Inside the well-stocked pro shop, you can also get a few cold ones to drink while you practice. And if you sign up on their web site, you can get an email discount for a free small bucket right off the bat.
Carolinas Golf Association
*The* association for amateur golfers in NC and SC. Regularly hosts large tournament events in different formats for amateurs at all levels at courses throughout the Carolinas, including season-ending championships on Tour-quality venues such as Pinehurst resort. I have a friend who plays in these tournaments and he's been twisting my arm to get an official handicap so I can play with him. I think I may check it out this season and provide a review update soon.
Golf Privilege Card for the Carolinas
Sponsored by the American Lung Association of North Carolina and only $40, this discount booklet offers discounted rates on hundreds of courses in NC, SC and VA. If you only use it 2-3 times, it will still pay for itself. You can check out the list of courses & discounts and then buy one online
Charlotte egolf Amateur Tour
This a great local tour for individual competition. Plays regularly at many of the local courses listed here and some within an hour of the city. Entering its fourteenth season, the Amateur Tour conducts stroke-play golf tournaments for golfers of all ages and handicaps. Winners get trophies and gift certifcates. There are also prizes for long drive and closest to the pin.
