I don't see Badin Lake Golf course listed here. Excellent course. Has undergone a tremendous amount of renovation in the last 5 years from the previously name Stanly Country Club. It is worth playing.

Course photo Description: This young course is just a few miles across the state line in South Carolina off the I-77 Carowinds Exit, just down the road from Regent Park. It used to be tucked away in farm country with nary a house on the course, but the area has grown like crazy in the past 2 years. It's still a rather quaint course. The fairways stay green all year and each hole offers 5 tees for different skill levels.

B-Man's Take: I've only played this course a couple of times, but I need to get out here more often. It is a well-kept course with lots of challenge and several unique holes. Pretty straightforward layout, with elevation changes and rolling hills the most common features. Look for twilight times and discounts to keep it affordable. My favorite hole is #10, a short but picturesque par-4 with a lake on the left side and an elevated green guarded by 3 large bunkers. There are a handful of devilish holes, including the #1 handicap 428yd 7th hole. This long par 4 will give you a long approach to an elevated green guarded by a creek in front.

News & Updates:
  • 7/29/10 - Springfield has lost its greens to the summer heat and the course is closed while they transition from bentgrass greens to the more heat-tolerant MiniVerde grass. They fumigated the greens this week and plan to sprig the MiniVerde grass early next week with the hope of being open by late September or early October. "The decision was, do we put more fans on the course (to cool the greens) or do we go with new grass," Gene Roper, director of golf at Springfield and Fort Mill said. "We had to do one or the other. Our greens were not up to snuff. We were tired of fighting it. It's not fun to do but when you look at it long term, it was the right thing to do."
